MTX Value for money

Dear GGG

I've been playing & enjoying this game for many years, but for the first many of them I didn't spend any money on the game.

I didn't see enough value in the MTX, they were simply too expensive.
-single armor piece-
It wasn't until the release of the currency tab, that was when I bought my first Supporter Pack.

But since then, the extra "gold" have just laying around in my account collecting dust.
I tend to look at the MTX "Specials" every now and then, only to realized i needed way more gold then what i currently have, in order to get anything worth while.

I would love to own most of your cosmetics if not all!
I think they are awesome and would be gorgeous if I had a matching set, that would just mean buying skill, portal, Armour set etc.
But paying over $100 for a cosmetic set is just not gonna happen, its simply too expensive.

I don't claim to know the "real" numbers behind your MTX shop, and I know that there is players out there that have the budget for it, but I feel a lot
of the player-base is getting left out due to the high prices.

Imaging if the MTX prices where like a 10th of their current values. I know for a fact that many of my friends, would buy more cosmetics if it wasn't so expensive, including myself.
Look at fortnite, you could buy a whole charater with matching pickaxe and warp for way less then it would cost in Path of Exile.

I propose two steps.

First I would give players a new way of earning gold, by playing the game.
It could be as simple as X gold per tier they reach each league, that might encourages players to play longer while trying to finish their set or getting that matching portal.
Even if you look at the lowest supporter pack you release each league, it's $30 and gives 300 gold.
That wont get you far, you might be able to buy a few tabs or a portal.

But if you want a really awesome looking armor set with matching wings etc. Now that will be a lot more expensive, and your $30 wont cut it anymore.

My second suggestion would be to lower the MTX prices significant. I would love to buy new matching set each league with skill effect and everything.
But with the current prices I just cant justify it, it's a real shame.

Personal, this would make me buy a League pack every league and throw my real money at Hideouts, Skills effects, Portals. ect.
All the things that the game have to offer, and not just the Currency tabs.

Sorry for the long rant..

TLDR:
Lower the price of MTX's significant, give players more incentive to spend more money.

You have several options:
1- the game works even without MTX (it is also more fluid), so you are not forced to purchase / support. (100% maximum savings! :D )
2- take advantage of special offers when they are issued, without immediately wanting the news, take advantage of the mystery boxes boxed when you spend a few coins.
3- Be satisfied with low-cost MTX without demanding high-cost ones.

You can also hope for events, of which there is no certainty: for example:
- the launch of POE2 will bring down the old mtx
- Covid-19 will also make its financial repercussions felt on the world of video games.
but these events take time.

Definitely don't expect GGG to cut costs,
for our complaints, this will NEVER happen, even if the high cost of their mtx is evident even when making comparisons with other video games that use mtx to support their work.

The money is yours, so it's you who has to evaluate how best to spend it,
I love Armani's clothes, but a pair of pants cost € 300, so I'm satisfied with a cheaper non-designer trousers .... I'm better than the Templar who doesn't have pants! : D

(sorry for my bad english.)
look at what subscription based games charge you annually and imagine having paid that for poe.

because the game is free doesn't mean they have lower maintenance/wages costs or lower expetations for general revenue.
offline
it's a trade off.

The cosmetic effects are useless but they are pricey for a reason, because they don't resort to typical free to play tactics.

There are so many things that other games do that people take for granted that nickel and dime the players, hiding progression, and even gear behind cheep MTX.

For instance even simple things like the number of characters you can create (some games only offer 2 character slots before you need to cough up instead of PoE's 20+) Or gating content behind paywalls, or even offering respecs for a small fee...things that most PC gamers agree kill free to play games.

And PoE's trade off, everything for free, no pay to progress, no boosts, no gear but the MTX are a bit costly

TBH as a long time supporter (if not a "whale") i look at it as supporting a game that i enjoy and play a lot, after hundreds of hours playing for nothing they kinda deserve a little cash.
Ancestral Bond. It's a thing that does stuff. -Vipermagi

make some "simple slightly less flashy" lower end MTX expand your market. let the poor kids and the rich kids use your shop, put an end to this complaining.

for example: candy for sale
£1 - customers you never had
£3 - customers you never had
£5 - customers you never had
£7 - customers you never had
£9 - customers you never had
£50 - customers you already had
£75 - customers you already had
£111 - customers you already had
£222 - customers you already had
£2000 - customers you already had

there should be £5-£10-£15 gamble box's too where you can ding any MTX across the board, scale rarity depending on box value, so the higher priced stuff is still in question for lower incomes.

i love the fact that poe is a free game but they should at least do this.

The MTX prices are definitely a problem and anyone who says it's not are either in denial or just trying a little too hard to defend a company where they need not!

I love GGG. I love PoE. Have loved them and their game since before release and well into the years after it.

I remember opening the cash shop in 2013 and putting in $13 AUD to get 100 points. You know what I could afford? A black cat pet. To follow me around and stuff. This isn't a complaint, as I only wanted to support GGG somehow *and* get a bonus pet for it. This was the mentality of the cash shop for a long time; it wasn't about what you were getting, it was about supporting the game and having something to show for it. Yes it was over priced, I've always thought that.

As the years go by, it's becoming less and less acceptable for what they give you. Paying $25 AUD for skill effects like Blood n Sand. Can you imagine paying a family's meal worth ... for an ability to glow either black or white when you toggled it? Or how about some really ugly furniture to put in your hideout that serve no utility whatsoever. OR maybe you'd rather spend the money on a footprint trail. I'm not saying these MTX shouldn't exist... they should... but why price each one individually so high??? It's like if you had to pay for lego bricks $25 one brick at a time for your kid. How quickly you'd go broke.

The armor sets costing 200 points translates to $25 AUD. A little costly but honestly for a full set of gear I'm willing to say this is the norm. I only wish I actually liked any of the armor sets. Maybe its because they have zero that look good on Scion, but I can make a Shadow and every set looks awesome. It really, really sucks that my favourite class has little to wear.

I foresee a lot of people joining this thread to say "its disposable income, if you cant afford it don't buy it" or "the cash shop is fine" etc. I honestly think those opinions are misguided ... To criticize GGG for their cash shop doesnt mean I don't support them because I DO. I have paid for the MTX and it is way too expensive. I don't buy anything any more. If I see something I like, I'm very hesitant to invest more than what I already have.

Why are we paying so much money for such little diversity in the armor anyways like pls just give me something that looks nice on Scion. thats my main gripe and no i wont shut up about it.

Anyone who claims MTX prices are too high has no idea what it means to be a F2P game developer.
Sitting in HO spamming alts for 4 hours straight is peak PoE gameplay. Thanks, Chris.
Problem with cosmetic MTX is that they sell p2w tabs on top of them.
And then introduce new currencies to sell new tabs ON TOP of that.

Look at other games.
In Warframe you can grind premium currency to buy storage and cosmetics.
In PSO2 you can buy cosmetics from other players for in-game currency.
But not in POE, no sir, despite being owned by Tencent, one of the hugest companies in the world, you can neither grind nor trade for cosmetics. Only real money and all deals are final. Same for storage.

So yeah, don't give me "poor f2p game developer" nonsense, POE has some of the most draconian monetization systems of all f2p games currently active.
But brown-nosers will of course defend this.

Warning: We are not denying the support, which I would say is right to support the company, but the high monetary value of mtx is criticized, because there are many videogames with decidedly less expensive mtx, which survive in a way positive.
GGG has had a strong growth over the years, as a quantity of staff, logistics space (work office) and a sale to Tencent which has yielded great profits.
I think this is the result of a company whose balance is very positive ... but how long can it continue if people then consider the product too expensive??

just because someone says item xy doesnt have value z,doesnt mean he´s right....

things have the value of what ppl are willing to pay for them
mtx prices are chosen to reach atleast a total sale value of xxxx and if the current pricing does this for ggg means the price of mtx isnt too high
