Toggle ON/OFF. Permitted?
I'm sure you get many questions similar to this but i feel as though my method may be still following the "1 action per input" rule
Put simply, My mouse allows me to toggle my mouse buttons on and off. Meaning if i press mouse5, it will stay pressed down until i press it again. (One press to hold it down, one press to release the toggle) Is this allowed? Thankyou Last bumped on Jul 25, 2020, 3:37:18 PM

" no because this is "automation" and that will still get you banned. The reason for this is that you press 1 key (on your mouse) and your mouse will then make multiple key press from that. It's the same with the one that found out that you could use the "num lock" key in the same way like on your mouse. It's not allowed. |

But thats the thing, it isn't making multiple presses, it's being helm down, which is one action

Arguing about it is not going to change the answer. It is considered automation and can get you banned.

" A character using one skill multiple times is considered to be multiple actions. The word "actions" refers to what happens in-game, not what happens on your mouse or keyboard. I've sent you a PM regarding this now. :)

" So going by your logic I am not allowed to hold RMB to keep casting my spells? lmao. Sitting in HO spamming alts for 4 hours straight is peak PoE gameplay. Thanks, Chris.

" First of all, it's not "[my] logic". When people ask questions about GGG's Macro Policy I post answers which are based on what I know to be true of that policy from both watching staff answer such questions themselves and from having reached out to staff requesting additional clarifications. I would certainly hope that no Valued Poster would guess at what may or may not be permitted in the game and subsequently present those guesses as being factual - if you ever see this happen, I would encourage you to e-mail support@grindinggear.com with a link to the thread. That we be "trustworthy sources of information" for the community is one of the goals of the Valued Poster Program. While that doesn't place upon us an obligation of being infallible, we should at least try to get it right and clarify where we're posting speculatively rather than providing known information. To answer your question, no - you are of course allowed to hold down a button to repeatedly use a skill. GGG's Macros Policy applies to macros; not continued interaction with a mouse and keyboard. Another example is that you are permitted to manually activate a Scroll of Wisdom and choose an item for it to be used on, however a macro is not permitted to execute this series of actions. You are allowed to use a program such as AutoHotKey to have a single button that, when pressed, sends the command /hideout, or posts "thanks for the trade :)" in local chat. While typing those would usually require the use of multiple buttons on your keyboard, each is judged to be a single action - and thus, a single use of one button on your keyboard is sufficient for it not to be judged gameplay automation. The question of whether something constitutes automation is what GGG is fundamentally interested in, and why your attempt to apply their Macros Policy to manual user input such as holding down RMB doesn't make sense and isn't something that they themselves would do. If you toggled on a macro that clicks the move forward button and another macro which used a skill, you could go downstairs and make yourself a sandwich while your character is killing enemies. If you hold down buttons on your mouse or keyboard, your character cannot be earning XP and loot while you are not even in the same room as your computer. There's a thread linked to from my signature where I've gathered a compendium of sorts regarding GGG's macro-related rules and it is liberally substantiated by links to sources such as the posts of staff here on the forum. You're welcome to check it out if you are interested in the subject. "VPs are not required to change their posting style. " That's essentially what a toggle the OP mentioned would do. A single action like holding down a specific key; be it any of the skills on the quickslot or a mouse button. I do not see this as automation. Sitting in HO spamming alts for 4 hours straight is peak PoE gameplay. Thanks, Chris.
