Identify before you sell to vendors?

Hi, I just had a quick question regarding selling items to vendors. If you know you're not going to use an item (an item type you don't use, or terrible sockets), is it better to identify the item before you sell? I don't usually bother with blues, but I thought I saw somewhere that you get more for selling identified rares. I'm constantly running out of scrolls for it, however, so I wondered if it was really worth the time and effort.

Thanks.

Unidentified magic and rare items are transmute shards - so take nearly worthless and break it up into a fraction.

Identified magic and rare output varies dramatically from some alt shards to an alch and breachstone fragments and such.

If you're going to bother to vendor, ID it - the trick is to reduce what you bother to stop and pick up.

I still have the habit of identifying too many rares myself, but I tend to drop it in map/instance once I stop running chaos recipe.
Yep, totally over league play.
Really early in a league start, when I don't have scrolls, I don't ID things. Once I have enough scrolls, or orbs to buy scrolls, I will start to ID.

If you plan to do some basic crafting, and don't especially like to trade to generate currency, you can pick up and vendor the rares and linked 3-colors that show up in your stricter loot filter. That will give you quite lot of trans, alt, chromi, and alchs over the course of the league. It doesn't take a lot of time out of your playing, although super-efficient currency generators would tell you that they can spend the extra 30 seconds per zone/map much more effectively. All depends what's important to you.

There are a lot of strategies for people who want to flip things (PoE as trade sim) or farm/trade. mbXtreme has a pretty good recent overview on currency generation for new players.
