Doryani's Prototype and Tempered by War

The new chest doryani's prototype says nearby enemies have lightning resist equal to yours, so the idea is to run around with really low lightning res. I made a build that can comfortably sit at around -60 lightning res and I wanted to use the Tempered by War keystone that you can get from karui timeless jewels. It says 50% of Cold and Lightning Damage taken as Fire Damage at the cost of 50% less Cold Resistance and Lightning Resistance. It works as expected for cold resistance, halving all my sources of cold res.

My question - when I put "50% less lightning resistance" on one of my items in PoB, it halves my -60 lightning res to -30. Is this the way this would actually work, or would the number actually go further into the negative and PoB just doesn't calculate it correctly? It definitely seems counter intuitive but there are other mechanics in the game that are just as confusing.

less/more is multiplicative. In other words, they turn into a *X, where X is the less/more value in percentage.
A 50% less lightning resistance means to multiply that lightning resistance for 0.5

So we have a +75% lightning resistance (as in, 0.75) correctly reduced to 0.75*0.5=0.375 = 37.5% as expected
But, if we do the same for a -60% lightning resistance, we have a -0.6*0.5 = -0.3 = -30%

So... yeah. It's logically counter intuitive. It also make mathematically sense

Thanks, makes sense. I'm still gonna roll with the idea. I wanted to use the new brain rattler too, and with the 70~% lightning pen I will have then I'll effectively be lowering everything to -100% res and still being pretty tanky. Only thing that I will need to worry about is non-hit lightning damage

Lightning DoTs are uncommon, but are indeed an issue when going against many of the Crusader's minion and the Crusader himself (watch out for those mana runes ground!). Oh, and of course Shimmerion, but since you are going Brain Rattler, you solve that problem right away.
You might get a lot of LifeRegen/ESRegen to solve the problem, but it won't be that much effective against a T16Baran if you misstep.

If building up a very high HP/ES pool is rather difficult, try going Mind over Matter: 2 pools are better than one, after all.

Also, you might want to keep a Topaz flask with you. While you cannot increase your lightning resistance, you can indeed take less lightning damage. And since we talk about less damage taken - how about a Fortify in that Rattler?

DOT depends on the value of the minus cash register, but if it exceeds -100, prepare for death. Some beams, such as the Shaper, die shortly before thinking.

Can we get a GGG confirmation on this? I know that Eye of Malice will boost how negative your enemies' resists are with it's 50% increased resistances, and I'm told that the phile helmets do the opposite when used with Prototype, which tells me that more/less multipliers might work the opposite way.

So if you have -100 lightning res for this, the phile helmets would drop you down to -50, Malice would bump the enemy's res to -150 whereas a 50% less lightning res would bump you up to -150 while a 50% more (not that it exists) res multiplier would drop you down to -50 again.

Are my math/reading comprehension fundamentals trash?

You can add a Ventor's Gamble in the mix, with a - light res as well.

I am currently working on a build to see if I can combine some of Doryani's items, like the Fist and Prototype. Still leveling the char, but got some ideas where I want to go. Just need to get there and test it all.. Chose elementalist, as reflect would be a pain.
