Double damage and DOT

your statement is not entirely true.

double damage already does affect the DOT in most cases, as DOT is often scaled from the initial hit damage.

Damage over time has not worked like that since 3.0. Damage over time is scaled off of base damage, and couldn't give 2 shits about whatever hit damage is, be it 1 billion or 0. The misconception occurs because hit damage also scales off of base damage, but the scaling is now branched rather than continuous. Double damage is not part of the base damage, it only amplifies the base damage as part of the calculation of a hit, and has nothing saying it amplifies subsequent damage over time, so it will not scale it at all.
There's no powercreep here. Creep implies it's slow and could be overlooked, this is a full out sprint.

Bleed Dot is just like Ignite with the exception of Stacking Bleeds or Bleed builds with tons of attack speed. Im not saying its worthless its just not worth going all in and sacrificing other more Consistent, meaningful, and easier ways to scale your DOT. (Answering the question why people dont mention it or use it more in such builds)

Double Damage is one of those things if you get some great its gonna be an inconsistent damage boost but a damage boost none the less. Point is there's simply not enough access to enough for it to ever be consistent in the case of DOTs scaled from initial hits.. Other than Poison for reasons already mentioned.

This is all Post Nerf btw... before when we could get meaningful amounts of Double Damage especially from Table Crafts and old Multimod of course it was a huge desired stat on endgame builds. Thats why it was nerfed so hard. Now its just a supplement stat that if you have room for it sure but its no longer worth going out of your way for anymore. Especially on these types of builds we are talking about that already have tons of other ways to scale from duration, to plain DOT, DOT Multi, element/poison/phys, ect ect.
There is a fine line between Consideration and Hesitation.
The former is Wisdom, the latter is Fear.

I just realized that AVOIDANCE was missing completely on the damage calculation wiki page. This mechanic brings everything in perfect order:

-avoidance comes after block check as we know from the avoidance wiki article

-ailment infliction must come after avoidance since an ailment is not inflicted if its avoided. It also must come before taking the final damage since else there would be no 1 hit freeze/splatters.

-double damage comes after ailment infliction and so becomes literally the last check of the damage calculation before taking the final damage, just like it is said in the double damage wiki article

So yea, double damage comes after ailment infliction, it does nothing to ailments.

Except for the "chance for double damage with bleeding/poison" mod found on elder weapons. ;-)
The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge.

Oh. Luckily, in the wiki I was cautious enough to write "nondamaging ailments" since I was only thinking about the frostbreath first hit double damage phenomena.

Damaging ailments might be different yea.
What I posted about DD is wrong btw.

I just had a discussion with a high tier poe wiki dude and he said its probably applied after step 1.

Also, avoidance is not related to block.

Literally everything I said about it is wrong since the assumption that it comes after block has turned out be an unanswered private mail.
