Performance gets worse every day

Only Standard is in a playable state for me anymore

So I'm somewhat of a newcomer to PoE, played year back for a trial, didn't stick but now in Delirium I'm hooked.

Everything started out well, buttery smooth, 120fps no problem, played through Standard campaign and played Delirium on the side, beat that too. No problems.

But the more I got into mapping I could feel my performance dip, high settings 120fps became medium settings 100fps and soon low settings 60fps.

Now the performance has deteriorated into a state where Legion and Delirium encounters just fall on their face, Legion counter lags for 5-6 seconds making the mode almost unplayable, and now that I made a new character to build in Delirium it seems like that mode too is unplayable.

Smooth 60fps but once I walk through the mirror it's easily a lag death for sure.

And I've tried to fix this problem from my end for the past week now, I've optimized my loading, removed the bad Windows antivirus from reserving any disc anymore, validated my PoE files for a couple of times, rebooted my router 3 times, changed the ethernet cable and contacted my ISP.

Every other game in my library actually runs better now, which is quite funny, I've never had any problems with a game deteriorating this bad. The only timeframe I can point to is the latest Steam update, after that the game has become worse every day.

And the performance dips are irregular in style too, sometimes it's a latency spike up to 2000, or frame time spike, or just a random FPS drop without reason, CPU at maximum 60% Memory at 75% at maximum and Disc at 50% unless I alt-tab in a loading screen.

Seriously, it's starting to be so bad I might need to quit soon, even though the game worked perfectly last week.

if it's getting worse every day even though there have been no real updates for a while that would effect gameplay (the last patch being to obscure the trade window in a certain instance of fossil abuse) then it isn't the game that is the problem.

I would love to hear why this is happening then when absolutely nothing on my end has changed and I've done everything from the most basic and the deepest fixes.

And if the game has worked perfectly before and suddenly it doesn't while all other games I have perform the exact same or better with the general fixes I've done to try and get PoE to work better.

It's easy to see this game has performance issues and networking problems, and I'm willing to believe the problem is at my end to a certain point, but that line has been crossed already.

I don't know if patching through Steam has gotten files tangled up, but in the end even that is not a problem I've caused, I have not tampered with .ini files of PoE, I've not downloaded any item filter, I have not done anything to the files of PoE myself, the game is running as bare as it can from the Steam client download. The only settings I've changed are the in-game settings.

If every, other, game is working perfectly, from ancient GOG games to Shadow of War and Borderlands 3 and everything in between is working as intended and on a good quality and PoE is not without me tampering with anything and trying to fix everything on my end, I am not willing to believe the problem is on me anymore, but if anyone can provide me with something to look at or fix I'm still doing it out of desperation at this point.

One thing I don't have is an SSD though and PoE is not running through one, but if that's a requirement to play this game for a longer timeframe of continuous investment then I'll be damned. But even then the game has worked wonderfully at 120fps on high settings outside of shadow settings, then that's just PoE being a broken game.

I had the same problem, dropped steam for the standalone. Game works flawless again.

There is something wrong with steam since the beginning of the league for this game.

It's funny I did the opposite, dropped steam for the standalone but for some reason every day the framerate gets worse and worse. When I log in I get normal FPS and the more I play the worse it gets, even in HO, it started a few days ago.
This game has such abysmal performance it's insane. When it's not the ping it's the framerate. Makes you wonder how it can be this bad after almost 10 years of active developement.

That answer is sadly pretty simple. When GGG only had the PC version, then could almost keep up with the bugs and maybe once or twice per year do some performens optimization.
Now the have PC, Xbox, PSN, Mobile and PoE 2.0 to handle + a management team (person) that demands 4 releases per year NO MATTER WHAT. So there is no time to handle bug, do optimization and so on.
Oh and lets not forget, that the owners (chinese) realm is priority 1......
