suggestion: apply loot filter server-side before items even drop

Hi everyone,

many people feel that an unnecessary amount of loot is dropped, impeding performance, only to be hidden by loot filters anyways. Whatever your personal stance is on the value of influenced vs. krangled items, probably you will not care much for those hidden by your loot filter.

So here is the suggestion: whenever an instance is created (e.g. area entered, map opened, ...) the loot filter of the creator is queried by the server. For every item that would drop, it is checked whether that item would be hidden by the loot filter, and if so, it simply does not drop in the first place.

* If done correctly, it cannot be gamed to force certain items to drop
* It saves memory and performance server-side
* It saves network traffic between server and client
* It saves memory and performance client-side
* The client-side loot filter still deals with colors and stuff
* If a party member opts for a stricter loot filter, those rules may still apply client-side for them
* There could even be two loot filters, one for server-side and one for client-side, making server-side (and client-side) filtering optional

Thoughts?

Kind regards

Hell no, there are plenty of cases where you need loot hidden by loot filter. Examples:

1) my current ssf set up, portal scrolls are hidden, but made into huge icons and i pick up few after boss is dead by pressing alt.

2) efficient chaos recipie gathering.

3) finding high level bases, i dont need 84 hubrises to show up, but sometimes i need them, having to go edit filter for it to even drop....

Good points.

The solution to this would be the more lenient loot filter server-side (which filters the 99% trash you NEVER want to see) in combination with a stricter loot filter client-side (which you can still override with alt).
The issue is defining trash you never want to see if far from trivial. Reality is some obscure trash items end up being needed. The solution is going to this easy and most likely not come untill poe2 or close to it.
