New request for South African gateway, now with AWS flavour
|
Hello GGG,
I hope that this request is seen, as it's purpose is to make you aware that AWS just launched their first African region in Cape Town, South Africa: https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/now-open-aws-africa-cape-town-region/ I know that GGG currently doesn't use AWS for their current hosting. I would like to appeal on behalf of all South African players and supporters of this game for this to finally change "as an exception". Your current hosting partner does not offer "good enough" or "at all" hosting to play PoE in South Africa (with decent ping) for this to be a reality currently. We are at the literal bottom of the second largest continent without any options for "strong hosting"...until today. The closest hosting is in Europe/UK. I vaguely remember it being mentioned that AWS was previously looked at for hosting. I am almost certain that having hosting on multiple providers may have it's own set of problems. GGG - we want that sweet sub 50ms ping. Some of us will have even sub 10ms ping. From the Q&A with Chris Wilson that recently came out, he spoke to the very same experience we have also had for decades of online gaming. The capability for us is here now and I hope that you will consider this request seriously...and hopefully soon!!! :) Last bumped on Nov 9, 2020, 3:09:03 AM

I agree.
I always wanted to try hardcore, but it is definitely not feasible with a high ping. I would like to know if it would be possible to consider AWS capetown region for hosting. |

i would like better connection and i know more people would play if the ping wasn't so high.

Bamping, as the request still stands.

I'm European and I approve that you guys get a good ping as well. Seems kinda unfair otherwise
The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge.

While these feedback forums are likely more trafficked after league announcement, I'd like to once again attempt to get a response regarding the request for an African region server, specifically South Africa, where major Cloud providers have data center presence.
If it cannot be done for technical reasons, fine, please let us know that. If it cannot be done because of exclusivity contracts with Softlayer, that would be highly unfair as your South African players are being held ransom to an agreement where Softlayer appears to not care about operating in, unlike major global cloud providers who have presence in the region for some time now. I can see how an easily scalable cloud solution for your South African players can show you the demand for servers in the region - could you consider tossing some our way? It would be fantastic to have my favorite game locally hosted for next league launch. |

" bump in the hope that this makes it onto someones to do list. |

" You're a trooper dude, thanks for continually trying to not let them forget about us. Hope it bears fruit one day. |

So far, I feel ignored on any channel I have mentioned it.
Other than messaging the public facing employees (and I mean going all out campaign), I am stunned that there is just silence. I don't want to do messaging for attention - I'm fairly certain those inboxes are full of lots of stuff that gets ignored and it's borderline harassment. BUT! DAILY REMINDER THAT GGG STILL DOESN'T DEEM AFRICA FIT FOR IT'S OWN GATEWAY. Guess I'll start bumping this thread everyday (not sure if against forum rules, don't care either). It's time to get this done and if I have to be a nuisance until a response is forthcoming, then so be it. It's great that we still have to beg for something like this in 2020. |

" But Chris has already replied to this buy saying that the amount of money coming in from your region is to small to support the expense of making local servers.... So you will properly need to find some sponsors..... |
