PoE constantly using ~20Mbps network bandwidth

Since today (latest patch?) I'm experiencing contant ping spikes. Checked task manager and PoE appears to be using ~20Mbps bandwidth which probably causes the spikes.

I've restarted my PC but it doesn't help. Has been like this for the past hour.

i dont want to be alarming but it's quite scary if it is not the patcher but the actual game downloading at 20mbps. It's absolutely abnormal, could you try to scan it with virus total?
I will never be good but always I try to improve.
Can't scan with virus total because I would have to upload 34gb. But I scanned with Windows Defender and everything seemed normal. The client is downloaded through Steam so I don't think it can be malware. I also checked file integrity but it doesn't solve the bandwidth issue. There's a guy on Reddit who has the same problem. Perhaps some kind of asset streaming issue? Anyone else experiencing this?
i'm talking about the executables (.exe), if you could scan them with virus total? not the content.ggpk it's too big and to scan it is quite useless, if the client detect a change on it, it will redownload it.

however if the executables got infected by a trojan, it could explain this behaviour?

i dont believe that poe does asset streaming while playing from peer to peer/server, normally the assets are in the ggpk archive and the client downloads everything before the start of the game.

Hmm... it could also be Windows game mode DVR, recording and uploading for no obvious reason? or twitch ?
I will never be good but always I try to improve.

Well then, looks like the issue has been fixed. I'm not sure what fixed it though. The files were clean. I fiddled with Geforce Experience a bit. Tried running PoE with it both enabled and disabled. Got mixed results.

Anyways my ping is back to normal, even with Geforce Experience running. Perhaps the issue fixed itself, perhaps turning Geforce Experience on and off again fixed it. IDK. If anyone has this issue it's worth trying to disable the game capture software.

@Geisalt Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
Hmm nope, cancel the above. Game is back to lagging again. Both with Nvidia overlay on and off..

Update: disabled every overlay I could think of: Geforce Experience, Steam and PoE Overlay. Lag is still there.

then maybe you have a problem with the steam version of the game (because of steam). The stand-alone client doesn't do this.

Why don't you try that?

I'm seeing the same behaviour with the "standard" client, so probably not a steam issue.
Found the solution in another thread.

Disabling followed item filters fixed the bandwidth usage. If you're having this problem you should use a downloaded item filter for now.
As a poster in another thread mentioned, the problem is most likely caused by the item filter subscription ....

Switching to a simple filter file fixed the problem for me.
