Orbs Farming Ideas

Hey guys,

Recently, i m trying to find an efficient way to get currencies a bit faster.
I am at a point on my highest chars that i need to start crafting to get better gear.
My problem is that i m poor :p

I tried alot of things :

-Farming Ledge or western forest with my main (currently 84) but the currency drop penalty is a big issue with this, even if my killing speed is crazy high in these zones.

-Farming maps isn t really more efficient as i can t really wear as much IIQ/IIR as i do on lower level areas. The only good point is that i have a chance to loot some big uniques i m looking for some future builds.

-Farming normal merveil is ok, but only for alterations mostly, wich i ll convert to fusings mostly.

-Playing a locked 55 char at the ledge, chain killing him to stay at a level where no penalty drop occur seemed a good idea, but the killing speed is obviously lower than with my main wich counter the 100% drop i think.

I m not a trader at all. I have a lot of decent gear in stash but i m not trying to sell them all day long as i don t want to bother with currency rates, prices etc.
I really doubt i ll ever try multiboxing, as tempting as it seems, i won t get any fun doing so, and fun is for me an important factor when grinding.

I stand at 104% IIQ/ 240% IIR atm, a lot less when farming maps. With this mf, i spend nearly more time vendoring yellows than killing stuff. Rare orbs (exalted/divine/gcp) i drop can be counted on the hand, even when playing with no penatlies.

All that to say that playing solo most of the time, without trading all day long or multiboxing, i still didn t find a solution to farm a decent amount of orbs to start crafting effectively.

What do you guys in my situation prefer ?

Two tips I've read (and that you could totally combine) are as follows:

1. IIQ. The more items that drop, the more orbs that drop, period. IIR means nothing, as it doesn't change what orbs drop, just the color of the items that drop (more blues, yellows, etc).

2. Make a new char, play him through to the ledge and farm it a few times until you're level 10. Since you're not overleveled for the zones, you get optimal orb drops. Once level 10, put everything back into the stash and delete. Repeat.

By building a low level set of IIQ gear and using it on the new chars you use to farm through level 10, that sounds like the most optimal orb farming method. Usually the first few zones up through level 10 are practically playable while naked, so you won't need godly "twink" gear to do this.

Leveling several completely different types of characters can also be a good option. The only problem is of course you might spend a lot more of your currency that you do get by gearing them up this way, but on the other hand if you're not trading much, this will also give you a good use for a lot more of the gear that you find and would otherwise just either vendor or have sitting around taking up stash space.
Recently I was trying out merciless twilight strand farming. Killing all mobs except whites.
Then vendor the loots for alterations.

Amt of alterations per run is okay. The occasional unique drops are an added bonus.
Don't get much currency drops there though, I am level 76.

I did that a lot also. I really like to reroll in this game so i often do that. Adding to this all the chars from races. It s alright for sure. I ll try this with a bit more MF on gear :)

I heard that IIQ was useless at certain amout, not sure about this tho. I heard it s either 0,50 or 100% but i d like a confirmation on that.

Farming strand is also decent as i find hillock more consistent that Kuduku, with less white mohbs on the way.

I'm not sure any amount of IIQ would be useless. Increase item quantity = always good. More items = more orbs. Not sure why you'd need a certain amount of more items before it became good.

As for farming strand, you get overleveled for that zone faster and thus suffer a penalty to orb drops. Thus my suggestion to farm ledge until level 10 was to try and prevent you from suffering a penalty to orb drops at any point of the experience.

One follow up that I didn't see/realize until I posted my last post.

If, as you say, there are less mobs in a zone, it is a WORSE zone to farm. Orbs don't drop based on the mob's rarity. Orbs just drop at a certain percentage as you kill mobs. Thus, more white mobs = more orbs. More white mobs + IIQ = even more orbs!

Sure, Hillock may drop better GEAR than Kuduku, but gear is NOT orbs.

Also, Kagari, please tell me you're not skipping mobs/jars. I've found more alchs in freaking clay jars than I have on mobs. If you stack IIQ then you need to break every jar/cairn/etc you see as you'll have an even better chance of getting something from them.

No worries on that :p

When i play i break every jar, crate etc i find. I don t skip any mob, unless the mob is far and alone.

And when i talk about strand, i do it on my lvl locked char so no penalty here.
