Give us a chat filter!
"This really wouldn't solve anything in the end. There would still be a cesspool "normal" chat that would ostracize new players. There would also be the implication that GGG wants us to pay them to get access to a moderated chat channel. Moderation is the best answer, and it's coming. People need not worry about censorship. GGG has shown that they don't want to censor people's thoughts or opinions (a look at all the D3-related threads is good evidence). However, they don't want their forums or game chat filled with spam, excessive vulgarities, or discriminatory comments. That is what the moderation will be for. Closed Beta/Alpha Tester back after a 10-year hiatus.

" Your overreaching diatribe does little for the overall discussion. I don't think anyone is promoting the idea of the Great Firewall of PoE. However, you reference the success of older games but totally disregard the complete change in the gamer landscape since those old school games. Trolling, verbal abuse, etc are all ubiqitous on the Internet now in a way that there never was before. Its unfortunate but true that virtually any large electronic based forum of discussion is going to require some sort of correcting mechanism (be it voting, reputation, filter, moderation, whatever). A piece of anecdotal evidence: The other day I watched a group of a dozen players spam "anal" followed by random linked items for a solid 10 minutes in HC global chat. Giving us options to filter or sort chat would be good:
-Global (every dif chat included) -General seperated into Dificulties but with option to choose wich one I want to see. ( so if I want to see chat from other dif than I'm playin I dont need to stop and change my own or hasten my progress ) -Whisper channel -Trade channel divided into difs, but with option to tunr Global (Traders can sapm there to their content, people like me who dont trade often, or dont care about trade at the moment have less item spam while killing things ) -Party Channel -Looking for Party Channel (though this one isnt "must have" ) -Help Channel , I doubt new players would use it anyway but we could try, I myself (call me selfish bastard :P ) dont like to see people asking over every trivial and obvious thing, especialy considering fact, there is awesome thread FAQ for newbs (and another awesome Mechnaics thread ) wich answer like 99% of those questions. Sadly people dont bother reading useful infos they prefer to flood chat xD I would even go for more filter option so lets say, I am bored of D3 vs POE wars every 5 mins, so I just will make filter wich ignore every msg with "D3/Diablo" in it, or the whole sentences "I have no quests what to do" :P*. Simply blocking or filtering "bad words" isnt enough for me, I want ability to swap those words into other, so lets say "Fuck You" info "I Love you" and then watch people loving each other on chat :P *I know this kind of filtering isnt ideal, so every chat could have option so I can actively switch filters on/off to see if something of value isnt blocked (in off mode it would show all msg with nothing blocked ) Overall what I mean: I like to actively read chat while playing, through years of gaming my mind learned to literaly ignore half or more of spam, but well it isnt program I cant filter everythink with my eyes.
