One shot deaths and stupid Sirus
After a lot of hours on POE, having killed Sirus in delirium, having 30 out of 32 watchstones at the moment in delirium, I am not a pro but do know a few things about the game and I want to comment on a few things:
1 - Sirus fight is just fkn stupid. Apart from some youtube guides there is little information about the fight. Most of the guides recommend the same thing - keep running. He can one shot you in the last phase (previous ones too if you face roll) no matter how good your build is or whether you have "corrupted blood cannot be inflicted upon you". You simply have to get lucky and keep running. I feel the answer to all the GGG complex mechanics in this fight is to just keep running and hope you flame dash to the right side... like is this what this end game comes to after you spend countless hours grinding this shit? To just keep running? The time I do kill Sirus I just feel I got lucky. Very unrewarding experience. 2 - Death penalty. Why? I think, and well, I read, that they most likely do not want many people being at high levels... Ok, very mature, if that is the true reason. But dying to your stupid Sirus and having 10% of my exp taken away, on top of the unrewarding fight itself, is just ever more discouraging. I feel i want to exploit the game as much as I can to just say fuck you GGG and just kill Sirus once for achiev and then skip the fight from then on. Or only attempt hard boss fightsa once I level. Either way, feels unnatural and restraining. 3 - One shot deaths from random shit. I just randomly die once in a while. Sometimes when I open the strongbox and get stunned and a million shits pile on me, sometimes i just open the door and immediately get downed. Mind you Im at 5k hp and 3k es. So what I learned is - skip league mechanics in tight places, skip difficult boss fights, skip everything that may kill you, if you want to level up, that is. Otherwise, go die to Sirus 20 times to learn the fight and then get portal scrolls when you do kill him... Overall, I like that POE is difficult, but I simply don't feel rewarded spending 5-10 hours playing this grind every day. As well, the fact that I have to rely on 3d party resources for pretty much everything, from trading to boss fights, makes me feel this game is incomplete, so to speak. If someone would ask me whether they should try playing POE, id tell them - great game but don't do it, unless you are ready to spend many hours researching and hundreds of hours grinding (if you want to get anywhere). I LOVE POE and spent many $ on it, though I Feel I only play it because there is nothing better, at the moment, and that is not a good verdict... Last bumped on Aug 10, 2020, 11:33:16 AM

1.) Yeah, the fight sucks
2.) You go to Sirius with exp? Anyhow: some like it some don't. I feel like there are valid points on both sides. 3.) You should not get stunned from strongboxes. It's a mistake that can easily be avoided. Massive damage spikes are an issue since 3.9, that's correct. “Human decency is not derived from religion. It precedes it.”

1. The fight is stupid, I agree with you, but I don't understand what you mean with "you simply have to get lucky". As you said, just keep running in cricles. He can't hit you with his one-shot mechanics if you keep running in circles. That's the most stupid thing about the fight, that it is actually brain dead easy if you keep running in circles.
2. So you want a game that doesn't penaltize deaths? Why even play then if you can't "lose". An auto-win game is boring. If there is nothing at stake then any progress is meaningless. 3. Well 5k hp and 3 k ES is by no means a "death proof" setup. But I agree that the game tends to go 0 to a 100. There is nothing in between. There is only face rolling everything and "what the fuck just killed me?" But as far as I know that is an actual design decision by the devs (confirmed by Chris Willson) and this will most likely stay like this. |

1. Running in circles on sirus is a very good way for him to hit you constantly, unless you are talking about side-stepping like I believe Killerkost is. Then it's very difficult for sirus to hit you. Last phase sirus is when the mechanics of the fight start happening all at once and you get another ability added in. Once you learn them, they're all pretty easy to avoid (brain dead as killerkost put it - honestly the fight reminds me of raiding deathwing with DBM it's so easy once you understand). I pretty much only get hit by degen from the quad beam and that's only because it hardly affects me and I walk through it with zero care since I understand the fight. Position and watching Sirus' telegraphs is stupidly important for this fight. I will still argue all day it's the best and most fun boss fight in PoE, if it turns out that sirus is objectively a poorly designed fight (it's not), GGG has a lot of work to do moving in to the future.
2. I don't like the xp loss, but 96 is plenty high enough level wise to do everything and finish out your build. Hell, 90 is pretty solid for your build. A lot of people build a second "bossing character" to save xp for their main character. Not a graceful solution, but it's one that exists. 3. even with 10k ES on chaos innoculation, you can still die in this game. Diablo 3's god monk isn't something wanted in the game - herald was nerfed last league for similar reasons. The increasing on-death effects that are difficult to see have made the "wtf why did I get oneshot" problem a lot more noticeable lately, however. " I am now at about 10-13 Mil dps and without any flex, I am able to tank the most of his death beams already, with around 5,4k life, so if I reach 6k I am pretty sure to be able to facetank him, kinda.... Staying close to him is the solution to all problems in his fight. Not rewarding`? Definetly, but that is nothing new or special for whole PoE.... Nothing feels rally rewarding except upgrading a character. Peace |

" Pretty much suns up. You either grind and level or do the game mechanics. Both is impossible. Your choince, GGG won't change this. "There's no thing like random one-shots in this game. You only die because you take 353,456,237 hits in 0.2 seconds."
