XP penalty and this lag/crash-fest is not toleratable anymore

Generally I do not care with the XP penalty, it has some architectural problems like being linear, but I play in a way always to try to not die anyways, even why I play in softcore.

However, with the recent leagues, especially now again with delirium, just like we had in blight before, lag and game crashes are constant on EU servers at least and almost all my dies are coming from these situation. I cannot remember when did I die last time when I have seen my death, and not only the resurrect screen after the screen came back after the lag spike.

I was patient till this point, but today I lost already 40% xp in 3 hours on level 98, thanks to 3 several second long screen freeze / lag and 1 to a client crash. It is absurd, that 40% XP on 98 takes me a whole day, non-stop T14-T16 solo mapping for 12-14 hours.

And especially considering the new cluster jewels we got, it is much more important than ever to get all the possible passive points we can.

EU servers are a pure joke nowadays; does not matter which one I use, all of them are unstable.

Just died 6th time on level 99, lost already 47% xp alltogether on this level, 5 of the 6 deaths were due to several seconds long lag spikes when I was just welcomed back with my death screen. 10% xp for a regular solo T16 mapper / delver is a whole day on 99. This is pure nonsence at this point.

Just to recap, finished my level 100 this time too, but EU servers are in a terrible state this league.

Rotated all EU servers in the last few days, Frankfurt is clearly the worst one (what I used for a long time), had tons of lag spikes and several instance crashes there. The most stable (for the last few days at least) seems to be Milan and Amsterdam (for me at least), did not have any instance crash on them, but random sudden lag spikes were there as well, but way less frequently.

Spoiler
It was my slowest (died 9 times just on level 99 losing 77% xp alltogether) and for sure the last level 100 for me, as long these servers remain in their current state. I like grinding, but the servers' state and the xp penalty are way out of sync nowadays. I pay for a stable internet and support a game to have a stable service, exuce me, for expecting them work well together.

At least, I learnt something again of the 1 death of the last 9 what was my fault, do not run Baran influence in toxic sewers in the delirium fog while leveling as You will get gutted by an invisible mana rune, run out of mana almost instantly and die there stuck at place.

I have to agree, I kinda don't like the penalty. I have had several deaths from disconnects, and the lost maps don't make it feel any better.

I wanted to say I think I wouldn't like it even if the servers were running smoothly. It's just not that fun. I get the desire to have a penalty for death, especially since "racing" is such a big deal for the POE community. But it also feels like a giant tax against new players or off meta builds. It can feel incredibly frustrating sometimes when you just want to make some progress on the atlas only to see your XP melt away. It's also kind of antithetical to the whole idea of "pushing the atlas" to challenge yourself.

I only really recently felt this way. Last league was when I started playing, and by complete happenstance I chose to play a Necromancer. I had no idea they were OP, I just really like Necromancers in video games. So of course leveling was a breeze, red maps were easily obtainable, and things progressed well. But I only got to play for little over a month before the league ended. Being new I just looked for another build that sounded fun again and went for it in Delirium league. Now I'm having a completely different experience. I feel like I have reached a plateau with my current character. And that's not really such a big deal. I would happily keep plunking away at the maps and having a good time despite the fact that I suck at bosses and whatnot. But it still stings knowing that I'm not really going to be able to progress at all because I die too much. It's a mechanic that has really just sucked the fun out of the game for me.

All things considered I know why the mechanic exists, and I get why it's important. I just don't think it's very fun.
Yes, I feel the same generally, xp penalty itself is already not a too good thing, but I also understand, why it is there, at some degree. However, I absolutely do not agree with the size of it, being linear with an exponential xp curve, like being a flat 10% all the time.

Also, when I aim 100, I always have (to have) another character for risky bosses, which also kind of un-fun on the long run. I also do not like to skip any content, so that also makes harder to be always safe. Like now, delirium could be very rippy, but I wanted to do them, so died by it from time to time by my underestimating fault, next to the lags. Used my other character only for the conqueror, guardian, catarina, delve bosses and sirus kills, risked everything else during leveling, even nicely juiced T16 legions and metamorphs on the way, which resulted in some mis-played deaths.

The other problem I had / have with the current brutal xp penalty, that You cannot freely do and really enjoy the game just because of it. Before 100, You cannot risk anything really, because 10% on 95+ is a huge waste, and all the time just feels really wasted on xp. Then You reach that long waited 100, and You start to lose interest to go on with that character, because it does not even get any xp anymore, feels strange after the ride. So my problem is the xp penalty from a point of view, I agree with a kind of penalty to dieing, I tend to not die generally and play safe anyways, but as written above about the before / after 100 situation, my vote would not go for an xp penalty.

Yesterday night I died last time at 99,93%, I was very close to drop the whole game for good..

Death penalty in PoE feels like you are climbing to reach top of Everest. Just when you have a real hard day climbing non-stop and feel great for that someone comes in a helicopter and kicks you to the bottom again.

Yeah it actually is just stupid at this point.
I love the game for the most part, but when you play alot, it just destroys the fun completely to the point where I just want to get the wings now and quit this shit.
what's stupid is complaining about a connection problem and not doing any trouble shooting and just blaming it on the servers.

I have yet to DC this league.

You are also playing during a pandemic which has hundreds of millions of people forced to stay home and the best source of entertainment is the internet, so guess what happens when the infrastructure takes that amount of stress all the time...that's right, if starts failing, they throttle it, they divert it....that leads to lag and DC's not ever server realted.

So until you man up and actually post a WinMTR ran while you play and are lagging (for 500 seconds) and post it everyone apart from other idiots will make the call that it is YOUR connection or your ISP

do you guys want diablo 3 or path of exile, The death penalty in this game is mild at best compared to the mmorpg of old.

Hardcore characters don't get deleted(not hardcore), Standard players don't level down(easy mode), the only really hard part about this game (if you can really call it hard) is learning how to make a build.

What do you guys want to play here, Pokemon snap? (that was fun)

Not trying to be rude here but holy crap has anyone against the death penalty ever played a game that makes you take a risk before?

Might as well tell the casino its unfair you don't win every time you put a coin in their machine.
