Fishy....
Hello fellow gamers! I just bought the beta to PoE, and while im waiting for it to download i'm feeling fishy. This game seems to good to be true. Does anyone else feel like when the full game comes out we will need to pay for content? I hope we dont! I know it says in the FAQ that you do not need to pay, however that is what most free to play MMO's say and later you find yourself paying quite a bit of money. What are your ideas? This game seems to have great potential, I hope it stays this way.

I know it seems odd that a small company like Grinding gear games makes a game like this, then makes it completely free to play, only to rely on people to buy cosmetic stuff for their characters. It's actually quite a big risk for them ( hey, who's going to buy cosmetic stuff? ). But if you see they raised 200,000 dollars trough crowd funding in one week, well. I think it's the players that will keep the game free by supporting it. Plus, things like custom leagues for you and your clan is something that might be bringing in big money..
Have fun playing PoE, welcome to the community :) Shoep - Default league Ranger

Thanks!BTW i have a question about leagues, are they implemented into the game system or are these community based? I heard about a "hardcore league" where if you die you will lose your character. They sound fun, and if they aren't in the system they should add it! It would be a pretty cool feature.

A lot of those 'free' MMO's are just in it for a quick buck, pay to win is common, or just pay to be able to play a good version of the game.
The only things you will pay for are going to be cosmetic things, so new spell effects, , and things like more space in your stash (item bank). So basically 'cool' stuff, but nothing which gives you an edge over other players. It's been shown before that people are more than willing to pay for stuff like this, its fun. I highly doubt they will add paid content, such as new areas, I think this would go against a lot of the reasons people are so excited about the game. The game has sold exceptionally well and the developers are clearly doing this for the passion, not for the money so you shouldn't worry. |

" Yes there is a hardcore mode, though if you die on it your character gets transferred to the default (Non-hardcore) league. You won't completely lose your character... You just won't be in hardcore anymore. So yeah, the leagues are implanted and here already, they're planning to add more in the future. Shoep - Default league Ranger

" Well, they certainly made a lot of money off of me :P I want to see them succeed! |

If early support has been any indication, most of us will be able to play free of charge thanks to a few very generous benefactors.
I'm not sure what the ratio is, but for every Zahndethus that goes all out, that's maybe over a hundred of us regular scrubs that get to keep playing for free. :) |

He's used to being disappointed, I would think. We've all been there.
Age of Empires III, Civilization V... Oh, how I could have loved you! If the present trends are any indication, you'll have to wait for GGG's third instalment before things go sour. ;) |
