LORE SPECULATION: The Atlas, Delirium, & Zana - Path of Exile Lore Mysteries (PoE 3.10)
Insanity is a recurring theme in Path of Exile, especially recently. I believe the Conquerors' madness was not caused by the Elder or the Atlas but by Delirium and its vile creator, Tangmazu. Learn why in this Path of Exile lore mystery!

Zana is the main villian here!
Wraeclast would be a peachy(all things considered) place if were not for her damn map device! Thing just keep popping bad stuff and driving people insane, she knows it, but she still keeps finding excuses to make suc... err... exiles to venture tro it and get mad as result. Flog Zana and break that damn device already |

Zana is still going to shank you for killing Daddy and not trying harder to save him from the Elder.
The conquerors came along after you failed to save Daddy. They did the job they were hired for, they bagged the Elder once and for all, and got revenge on it by turning it into gum drops and pinning the gum drops onto the atlas. When it came time to pay them, Zana bailed and sealed them in the map device. Their friends and relatives came sniffing around wondering what had become of this "really trippy gig" they had lined up that would make them all wealthy. As luck would have it, one of those relatives was Capt. Kirac, chief of homicide with the city guard. "We need a sucker," he said. "Someone with enough knowledge to run the map device without getting their tie caught in it and instantly snapping their own neck. But someone dumb and greedy enough to go in after what may prove to be another primordial cosmic entity. Best case scenario, we pry Baran out of whatever archbishopric he's spun together for himself out in the weeds, and nuke the map device from orbit." Then you come along, fresh out of being fleeced of your resists on the cathedral rooftop, looking for trouble. Well you found it. Zana's cooperating with police now, but only because if she doesn't, she'll go to prison...in Cells, right next to Sister Cassia, and have to listen to that singing for the rest of her natural life. As for the elderslayers going nuts, you'd go nuts too with the starting map pool most people have - pier, wharf, beach, can a body get something to eat besides boiled limpets and sun-dried rhoa sinews please? It doesn't take a malicious god to torment people with bogeymans in a land that's quite literally from the very first minute on the strand, cram-packed with bogeymans. That and a steady diet of questionable seafood should do the trick nicely. [19:36]#Mirror_stacking_clown: try smoke ganja every day for 10 years and do memory game
