Black Screen

My first gaming laptop used to run at 100C lol.

It worked fine for 2 years then it got stolen so idc anymore lol.
You get what you deserve...
Me too i get the black screen and i think it happend because i changed the game from windowed to full screen.
Still got black screen is there any way i could change settings via files?

Out of interest, what are your Power Saving settings? Could it be that PoE isn't causing your PC to detect that it is active, and is going to sleep? It sounds unlikely, but the fact that it's exactly 30 minutes makes me think the screen is just going to sleep!
Balance & Design
Same thing just happen to me. opened it full screen hit alt enter to go windowed and it was still black. so i hit cntrl alt delete to bring up task manager and it became visable again in both windowed and full screen. hope it works for you :)
Many months later.... I'm getting excited for the impending PoE fan explosion and I come back to the community. I'm not getting the black screen, but my laptop GPU is hitting 85 degrees celsius even with low settings. Worth note is that it seems to shoot up a few degrees when I opened up my cluttered stash inventory. It'd be a real shame if this kind of thing stopped me from playing this game. By comparison, Torchlight 2, with normal/high settings gets my GPU up to about 70 degrees. Is PoE really that burdensome?
I posted this in another thread, before I found this one.

Anyway, I'm getting a black screen on client launch. If I wait 2-3 minutes, it will go away, most of the time. If I start in windowed mode instead, I see the loading screen for 2-3 minutes before it goes to the login. One time, the game even caused a black screen while I was playing it, and I had to restart the computer.

I'm running an older machine, sure, but it handles Diablo 3, Torchlight 2, League of Legends and Guild Wars 2 just fine. I idle at 35c and hit around 50-55c at load.

My specs are: Windows 7 64, Q6600 2.4ghz, 9600 GT, and 4gb Ram. Latest drivers.

It could be my graphics card, but this game shouldn't push it harder than those other games do, especially GW2, which looks better. I even run PoE with vsync (tried on and off), a lower resolution (tried even lower and higher) and shadows and textures on medium to low. No excuse there imo for it to crap out but not those other games, which I run at higher settings.

And for the guy running high temps, it's probably dust in your system. I'm not sure about laptops, but for PCs, if you can get inside to dust it with a can of air then that should do wonders. Make sure the heatsink isn't clogged. Also make sure all fans are working.

I've done some testing, and I may have a solution. Firstly, I kept researching into the matter, and I noticed someone mention turning off Windows Aero. After doing this, I immediately got the loading screen instead of a black screen every time instantly, even in full screen, but the game still took minutes to load.

Next, I tried de-fragging my hard-drive. No noticeable improvements or changes here.

I then enabled "Run this program as an administrator" in the program compatibility options. The game took about 30 seconds to load (down from 2-3 minutes) but was frozen at the login menu.

Finally, I also enabled Windows XP SP3 compatibility as well, and it loads after about 30 seconds and works fine from there on.

So, to everyone with similar issues, try these steps, one by one and see what works for you. Please post your results here to help the devs.

It should be noted that I already had Windows UAC turned off long ago. Not sure why the administrator trick worked considering that fact, but whatever. I've yet to play the game since, because I don't have time now (was working on this for hours), but I'll keep you updated as to how that goes (if it crashes or not).

PS: devs, is there any correlation only to Windows 7 users having these issues?

PSS: As for the crashing during gameplay, I forgot to mention that I had vsync turned off at the time (it only happened once, after about an hour). I turned vsync back on and played for 2-3 hours with no issues. That's not to say the issue is resolved, but those with the black screen after time in game, is vsync on or off for you?

I've the same problem with black screen. Menu, Character list = everything ok. When I enter the town it is still ok. But when I try to move - only mouse pointer remains. Screen is black, sound/music is still playing.

I tried to change every graphic setting and all combinations with it, but it has no effect. :(

Laptop:
Radeon X1600
Duo T2300
NTFS 120GB HDD
50Mbit

I wish you can make a solution to this problem.
I just downloaded the game and I get nothing but a black screen after starting, I also tried the things Rudehero suggested but nothing changed.

Here's a DxDiag, https://dl.dropbox.com/u/59546146/DxDiag.txt

Short specs are: Win7, i7 3610-QM, GTX 660M, 16 GB Ram

Edit: may bad, it works now, I still had a game in background as I'm used to leaving games I frequently play in background instead of closing them, now after I closed that one it seems to work fine.

Your problem is that our series of cards don't fully support shader 3.0, if you want! You can use this shit bypass for now until you either build a new computer or they decide/figure out how to fix it.
