" Helena in Act 2 used to be more explicit about the fact that Maligaro and Raulo shared a relationship. Now she merely says that Maligaro claims Raulo offered himself freely for the procedure that would turn him into Fidelitas, without expanding on why. Using "gay" as a derogatory term for someone in chat will get you a mute. Using "gay" to describe a homosexual character in a video game will not. Pretty simple distinction, really.

I can literally google and find loads of articles by major media sites - including left-leaning ones - that use the word 'gay' in their headlines, sans any censorship (which the left is so famous for). It's not considered an insult unless it's used as an insult. The only times it is censored widely is when some poorly programmed chat moderation algorithm goes off the rails. Yes, that unfortunately includes forum moderators. And btw, you used the word as a derogatory term in your example (albeit not in reference to a person). The most likely possibility here is that he struck up a relationship with a fellow Templar at court and this is forbidden, either because it's a same-sex relationship or because Templars aren't supposed to have relationships - meaning the other possibility is that Templars were expected to remain celibate. We know one Templar adjunct who was not only not celibate, but the product of whose loins is central to the end game: Valdo. Whether he was considered full Templar or merely a scientist employed to the full Templar office, we aren't sure, but it seems like he was fully ordained and still had a wife and kid without taking any flak from the organization. So it's likely Baran had a male partner, another Templar at the courts, and he was from a less fortunate background than Baran, perhaps an exile, and Baran left him part of his estate in his will (along with some other peeps we know are at least a little bit decent *coughCassiacough*). Ah but clearly we can't have decent people forming successful, equitable, consensual relationships in a darkcore emo slashem game. This too shall pass, and the censors, or the creepypasta continuity squad, will remove it or warp it into something lurid and twisted, to properly foreshadow Baran's losing his marbles in the atlas.
