Annoying lag spikes in 3.9

Hey there

I used to play PoE back in the beginning of 2019, and had never encountered such problem. Played on wireless internet, still do. I'm having the same ISP, changed my PC (and upgraded to a better dual-band wifi adapter, was playing on a laptop before) and I also have changed my router.

Here's my WinMTR log.

Any possible solution?

PS I definitely won't be able to change to direct connection via cable.

well your link to the WinMTR? is no longer available not much you can really say about your problem, but internet isn't infallible you or your ISP can have problems even if you have been error free for years.

I have encountered it today as well.

POE is currently almost not playable for me:(
Just ran a T11 Core and it spiked so bad that it kicked me off. Re-logged and map was gone. Things like this really hurt the game.
A friend is having the same issue to the point where he can't fight bosses or metamorphs without lagging and crashing.

I also get lagging and hanging during metamorph fights.

Just to confirm, do you have like a router + modem or router + router setup in your house -->

192.168.0.1 - 0 | 601 | 601 | 0 | 2 | 14 | 1 |
|
192.168.100.1 - 0 | 601 | 601 | 0 | 2 | 14 | 4 |
|
mpts-ss-51.msk.mts-internet.net - 0 | 601 | 601 | 2 | 10 | 104 | 5 |

As you can see from your WinMTR report, latency spikes between hope 2 and 3 and my guess is that this is the connection between your house and your ISPs network. So I would start by calling your ISP and show them the WinMTR report.
First rule of playing any game, NEVER USE WIFI!. You always want to have a hard link to your router. 2nd rule, Never use a DSL ISP! Why? other than lower Internet speed DSL is a much higher latency form of Internet communication protocol. Think about the fact that DSL has to run over existing copper phone lines up to 3 miles from the CO (phone company central office, usually a bunker type of building where the fiber lines go to provide Internet service). Your phone line could be decades old with who knows how many junctions your signal must pass through to get your PoE data packets to/from the CO. All these physical junctions can be a source of a weaker than normal signal to your DSL router and as such will cause data flow delays that manifest as latency spikes in PoE (or any game). If you have the option cable is much better for getting a consistently higher quality of Internet service.

GGG can't do a damn thing for your quality of Internet service. However, it is a well known fact that GGG's netsync code doesn't work all that well compared to just about every other on-line game. Then there is the huge "Achilles heel" of a problem with their game hosting service. SoftLayer game host uses Networklayer (owned by IBM Cloud) fiber backbones (at least in the USA) and Networklayer is very bad at getting data packets from point A (gaming rig) to point B (PoE realm) and back. With frequent times of data flow delays (high latency spikes as seen in the PoE bandwidth graph) coupled with high amounts of packet loss and it's a recipe for disaster playing PoE with good QoS. For example, I'm in SW Florida and my Comcast Internet link is nice and clean to Miami NAP where the PoE data packets get handed off to Networklayer, then on to either Atlanta (WDC realm) or Houston (Dallas realm) also cleanly. But that's where the Networklayer QoS ends and problems occur. The Networklayer transfer of my PoE data to another NetworkLayer fiber line to WDC is always dropping packets, and the final links (hops) in WDC are equally likely to drop some of my PoE data packets. So much so that I can't use WDC realm at all anymore (even dc out using Predictive mode). The other PoE realm, Dallas, is dropping my PoE packets in 2 hops in Dallas area to get to the Dallas SoftLayer data center. I can't play PoE in Lockstep mode or I DC out every few minutes. Even in Predictive mode I used to get DC'ed out as well until I upgraded to Windows 10. Something about my Windows 7 was foobar-ing the PoE netsync code (probably Windows 7 Kernel wasn't executing PoE code threads efficiently enough... multi-tasking is super complicated timing) and kicking me out frequently (plus my overall QoP on Windows 7 was lousy). Windows 10 Pro 1909 edition solved that problem and Predictive mode plays well for me. An entire Sunday afternoon (Groundhog Day) and not one DC at all and Sunday is usually the worst time of the week to play PoE on (more data loads for Networklayer so usually more packet loss, but yesterday on Windows 10 I had none of that).

So you may be stuck with a problem that GGG can't fix. Or maybe you could switch from Lockstep to Predictive netsync mode and see if it does better on your specific Internet link. Or maybe... there's nothing left to try if you're running with an 8C16T cpu (at least 6 cores) of sufficient speed on Windows 10 1909 and have minimal background processing (turn off any software that steals cpu cycles from PoE).
"You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..."
Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration.

Oh great just give up and uninstall. That's grand, glad you've solved it.
UPD: I switched to 2.4 GHz, still has massive frame drops but at least the game is not freezing like it has been.
Too bad I can't switch to wired connection yet to check out if it would solve my problem.

Thank you guys for your answers!
