Improvements to Hideout Editing
|
First of all I want to say I'm so happy we have lots of new hideouts, including hideouts we can buy that are unique or have their own theme. It's also cool that mapping has a chance to drop special hideouts as well, and I would love to have the Haunted Mansion. Great job GGG on iterating of the hideout feature, especially given how much time we end up spending in them!
The Celestial Nebula hideout has really been eating a lot of my time as of late. I'm currently constructing a POE take on the Pandemonium Fortress from Diablo 2. Through creativity and dedication, I've managed to get a lot further than I thought possible at first glance, including constructing the out buildings. That said, there are still some things that I just don't think can really be done well that I wish were possible, and the freedom the Celestial Nebula gives you does cause you to stumble onto some of those limitations. I want to spell some of the more feasible ones out in the hopes they get added soon. I'll also mention a few afterwards that are wish list items. I understand from a design point of view those aren't very likely, however I will list them anyway to put it out there. Oriath Wall MTX First things first, we need to talk about the Oriath Wall MTX. Let's get the negative out of the way first. Seriously, WTF? Six bucks for a single piece of wall is beyond absurd. I'm not paying that, I'm just not. I want those supplies, they're perfect for what I'm doing, but I'm not paying that. I will work around the use case. That MTX does not represent good value for the money by any stretch of the imagination. Seriously, just fix it. I know it's jacked up, you know it's jacked up. Free Willy knows it's jacked up. $6 a wall? No. $10 for 10 walls? Yep. I'd do that, probably multiple times. $10 from a thousand people is a lot better than $6 from the 10 people who thought they bought a pack. Building Facades, Double High Wall Objects This is a broad category of thing that the Masters don't have a lot of choice in. I realize a lot of the doodads are short because we players don't have the sense to not put something huge at the bottom of the screen, but without stuff like this it's really difficult to build impressive forts or imply large structures the same way your artists do. Here's what I would like to see: -Oriathan Houses (just the facades would be fine) -Oriathan Roofs (preferably with multiple variations) -Just Roofs (no wall to block you, for putting on top of things if you want to make a house. Bonus points if they go transparent when someone is under them.) -Cliff Faces -etc Again, looking for stuff that is tall. I see these being used to line the edges of hideouts and imply something more than there really is. AKA, Facades. Utility Blocks Things in this category would be odd-ball objects that mostly exist for special effect or design purposes. They wouldn't really be intended as decor per-sey, but rather something that affects your other decor. Here's some that I can think of: -"Roofed Area": This would simply be an invisible square that changes the lighting in it's area to more of an indoor set. Variations could modify that lighting style to replicate different areas of the game. It's simply there to modulate the sky lighting a bit. -"Invisible wall/Tile": Exactly like it sounds. Acts as a movement blocker. I do get that there could be trouble from this one if people wanted to be malicious, but I think realistically players have plenty of ways to get themselves unstuck if they were trapped in someone's hideout. More "Ground" Tiles This is especially needed given the new Nebula hideout. The "Oriath Ground" tile is great, and I'm making extensive use of it, but I wish there was some more varieties. -Marble Floor -Wooden Floor -Grass -Desert -Corrupt -Biological Favor Injection I'd pay a few bucks to get about a million more favor added. Back in the day this would have affected gameplay when people wanted you to prove you really did have Zana Lvl 6, but now that all that is (thankfully) in the past it really doesn't effect anything except our ability to get parts. Wish List These would be some nice to haves that are probably more difficult to implement in a player-friendly way. Height Variations -Stairs -Invisible cubes (for walking on top of and laying objects on) -Visible cubes (again, walkable on top, blocking on the sides) -Invisible ramps -Visible ramps -Requisite trim pieces. I realize that a lot of the hideouts wouldn't have a use for stuff like that, but I know the creatives out there could really do a lot more if we weren't tethered to a single plane for the most part. Advanced Editor Mode Maybe some features that assist with the annoying parts of working on a large or detailed project. For example: -Locking your character in place and freeing your camera. -Making all objects semi-transparent. -Selecting multiple objects at once. -Undo/Redo (Please Please Please). That's about all I can think of at the moment. Got to get back to working on this project now. Hopefully other people are on the same page with me on this and GGG can implement some of it. -1 to buying favor with real money, They already gave PVP exclusive hideout to people who did not earn it.
+1 to most everything else. Innocence forgives you

Hi, I apologize because this is not entirely related to your post but where do you get Oriath Ground? I have been searching online and in the game and i cannot find where to acquire it. Same with Oriath curb and a few other items.
I am trying to build a hideout from the hideout showcase and it requires these items but i can't find them anywhere. |

Hi man no problem. You get it from Jun. It just looks like a brown rectangle viewed from an isometric perspective. According to the wiki, the ground is available from Rank 2 on:

Hideout management is lacking same way as stash management is. Single command - Right-click to move a tab forward - in 7 years. Other games have little button that sorts your inventory by size/value/rarity. PoE, which claims to be #1 among those games - doesnt have this little QoL function. How about single-click vendor/empty entire tab? Combine 2 half-empty tabs into one - have to do it manually. Everything. Hideout design is no exception. Only MTX gets the loving, nothing else. Not even leagues, which are fixed to barely playable level only after 1 month of community testing it about half-way into the league. Hideout issues are nonwithstanding, there are literally DOZENS of problems with PoE as of today. I'd say the elephant in the room is trade, but hideout design is also lacking in friendly UI.

Good suggestions.
For the Mtx walls, i'd rather pay $10 to unlock a deco that i can buy as many as i want than having to pay $6 per wall, knowing that you probably need ~50 or them per hideout. Which is a pity because the mtxs decorations are often very nice (like the pirate ones). I'd love to scale up/down the decorations too, it'd allow a lot more possibilities. Many threads have been made concerning favor, i hope GGG will balance it at some point. For the decos i think what is lacking the most are the most basic stuff to make buildings/different themes of hideouts that can hardly be improvised such as roofs/floors/walls. If Cassia becomes a master i'd like to see more of them to open a new range of themes as well as adding new variations within the same theme (like the tavern one which is pretty limited at the moment, with the same pole/wooden floor/walls decorations in pretty much all of them). Edit : I'd also add to flatten the ground of all the hideouts, and reduce the invisible walls as much as possible in all of them (like for Alpine, Battle-scarred). 📜My hideout thread : https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2542497 Last edited by Synopsis#1060 on Jan 14, 2020, 4:40:19 AM
