New to Path of exile my question is where do you get Sacrifice at night map fragment from. I have the other 3 fragments just need this one to activated the map device can anyone help please.

You can get sacrifice fragments from Metamorph creatures but most of the time you get them from running Vaal side areas. The Sacrifice at Midnight is the rarest of them all (gated on purpose) so that doing Atziri runs won't be done too often. The more you play PoE the more things you will find that GGG has deliberately gated behind super low rng drop chances in order to prevent widespread use. For example, rare unIDed amulets are low drop rates to slow down the Chaos and Blessed Orb recipe use. On my level 84 build I only have a few Midnight fragments compared to the others:



Dusk = 17
Dawn = 5
Noon = 5
Midnight = 4

Normally the Midnight is about 1/4th of the Dawn and Noon so this league I've gotten luckier with the Midnight find rate than I usually do.

FIRSTLY... they don't have the same droprates. Sacrifice of MIDNIGHT drops like TEN TIME LESS than the other three...
SECONDLY... The boss is pretty hard for a NEW PLAYER... read some GUIDES...!
THIRDLY... The encounter isn't really worth farming!

Do all vaal areas you run across.

Some will eventually drop you a midnight.

Or you can save some currency and go trade for one to complete a set. if you're in league, this might be only 5-10 chaos.

If you are afraid of dying in a vaal area, go back to areas you've completed before. Unlike new content, vaal areas will still spawn for you even if you're over-leveled for that zone.

A5 Reliquary, A6 The Coast and Mud Flats, and A7 Vaal City are reliable places to get a Vaal side area to spawn. Later on you will see them pop up in maps.

Lastly, once you're in maps, you'll see a lot of Her Mask divination cards. Hand in sets of 4 of these to get a random Vaal frag. I seem to get Midnights from the cards about as often as any of the other kinds.

This has nothing to do with the chamber of sin act 1. You use them in the map machine in your hideout.

you can also put one of these fragments in your map device to open a vaal side area from your hideout. Then again now that vaal side areas can be found in maps you might just as well run maps until you get one.

Uber lab usually drops a lot of vaal fragments too but for some reason I don't think you are quite at that point yet :P


However if you are talking about the questline for act 7 where you encounter a map device, you find that item by going to the area called The Crypt and you find a ""map"" in a box down there. You reach that area from crossroads->fellshrine ruins->crypt (always to the east from the crossroads wp). You don't need sac frags to enable that.

Unique Vaults of Atziri Map usually has at least one midnight as well.

Good point. I forgot about using a common fragment such as dusk in the map device to open a Vaal side area right from our hideout.

Now that GGG devs actually listened to one of our posts (how rare is that? Now please GGG read my double button solution to trade scamming) and added Vaal side areas in maps as portal entrances at least now we have a better than 0 chance (although still way too rare imho) of finding one while mapping.

You need the map from the other quest and put that in there.
The fragments are used later for:

increasing quantity in maps
running atziri
running corrupted zones

Don't bother with them before you finish the story.
