Try this (cold/crit witch gem combo)
One can of course run a build that generates power charges to use Cold Snap more frequently as the skill says by spending power charges to get around the cooldown on it.. Or you can combo it with trap and elemental proliferation + cold penetration for 3 consecutive uses with great effect :] Now.. this is just in a 4-link.. If anyone cares to, i'd love to hear/see what you can do with a Cold Snap Trap in a 5/6-link.. Perhaps with some increase area of effect / crit chance supports or such. Another small sidenote to make this thread-worthy ; you can use multiple trap gem combos if you want, effectively multiplying the amount of traps you can spam before waiting for new ones to 'generate'.. So far i only have 2 trap gems myself and the 2nd one is on another character, but i suspect there may be some very powerful builds one can make that utilizes combining traps with cold spells like Cold Snap, and strong supports like Elemental Proliferation ^^ Already with just the combo i linked, i can tell you, one trap easily freezes 20+ mobs for a few seconds - plenty of time to lay on some freeze pulsing before throwing a second trap in to keep them locked down effectively.. I haven't yet tried it in maps, but i'll be getting to that point soon with this character, so i'm looking for some feedback, possibly advice from others who find trap combos as useful and entertaining as i do :) |

That's really nice combo. Cold Snap is really strong this combo can abuse it. I'll try it out.

Well, some more testing and playtime fun now, and i think i can say pretty definitively that double cold-snap-traps is something that complements extremely well any sort of cold/crit based build, be it with a spell totem, freeze pulse, or both :D
Cursing the mobs that trigger each trap does seem to improve the duration of the freeze as expected, and given that the double cold-snap-trap setup can already dish out 6 traps consecutively before incurring the cooldown (which will grant 2 traps at a time instead of 1), it's definately something i'd recommend trying for yourself! Atm, my witch is 62 with a somewhat sloppy CI-cold/crit build; barely having much ES, like 2400, with around 23% crit chance and 240% crit multiplier. It seems to me something that might be worth attempting to make an even deeper investment in, since the traps do deal somewhat decent damage, albeit i'm a little wary of spending too much on getting the gems nescessary to make a fully trap-focused build yet, but it may be on the horizon. Here are the items i'm using (yes, a lot of them such badly for a 62, i know :P) Needless to say, Chayula is a near-must for any CI-type build unless you're going about not getting constantly stunned in some other way, I would like to wear a dream fragment as well, but it seems less nescessary with a cold res flask equipped for going up against elemental reflectors anyway :) The playstyle is simple and fun; round up yourself a pack of mobs, throw down your first trap in the middle of the pack and do your favorite curse right after (can be timed to be effective before the first trap goes off) - elemental weakness, crit weakness, and frostbite all work quite well for this - then simply lay on your favorite type of nuke and throw in another trap when the mobs unfreeze, rinse and repeat for great justice! :D Next testing session i'll be aiming at attempting Vaal merciless with this build, finishing A3 in a timely fashion as to attempt some maps i have pre-rolled from another character, and testing a trap combo with - though i suspect this will need more support for the same effect, such as LMP/GMP/chain+cold pen + ele prolif perhaps. Again, try it out if you can and want, and give some feedback, let us hear your verdict :] |
