I have exactly the same issue, not sure when it started unfortunately as I haven't played much in the last while. But I started the game up the other day to suddenly have loading my hideout nearly crashing my client, the last time I played I was having flawless short load ins as I am always used to.

If you HDD is your primary drive (C drive) then PoE will be forced to use it for some specific things like logs and temporary stuff.
So both primary system drive and the drive where PoE is installed needs to be a SSD drive.
My windows and game are both in C: which is an SSD, absolutely nothing related to the game or windows is on my HDD, but when loading maps it uses 100% of my HDD and about 2% of the SSD.

Are you playing from Steam?

If yes, please check if Steam set your game in correct disk, for example: In my situation I moved from one disk to another one (SSD), the game wasn't only moved, but duplicated in both disks, then Steam was using the game from HDD.
In my case I had to backup "Documents\My Games" folder, and then uninstall the entire game and delete the duplicated folder in another disk.
After install it from scratch it works as expected.

Check the swapfile location. It is possible the windows is using HDD as swap disk. how to check it .
Hello GGG,

I'm not using steam, I have the installer file on drive E, and in the installer Options I indicated I want to have the game installed in a folder on drive E.
Instead I get an executable located at: C:\Program Files (x86)\Grinding Gear Games\Path of Exile
The installation process is passing couple of stages before even starting to download. Currently on Allocating Space indicator is at about 10% progress, and it's been 40min (so far) with 100% utilization of my system drive C:
What are you doing wiht my drive?! What could possibly require over 40min of constant operations of the SSD at 100%? Are you making full backup of my drive in the cloud? Even that would take less than 40min!

Please add option in the installer to indicate drive/location for all the installation related stuff instead of slamming my system drive!

Ideally show some log output, so I can understand what operations justify this amount of intensive IO.

Regards,
