New Balance manifesto TL;DR Get rekt some more Melee!

Fortify nerfed = more damage taken by melee

Multimod nerfed = harder to make a decent melee weapon

2 handers nerfed (no more phys % with 7th link mods) = melee styles have even less diversity and the better DPS options are now dramatically nerfed.

More boss life = more damage taken by melee due to longer exposure and more need to move (which also = lower DPS uptime less leech and less Life on hit)

More investment needed to deal with armor and elemental resist = More dmg taken by melee due to longer exposure but also: less passives for life utility and DPS.

Buffs to Ranged totems = safe ranged playstyles get safer and more damaging when they already had no problem doing lots of DPS or being safer (3 free Ele hit Balistas will completely faceroll all content).

Buffs to boss life = safe ranged playstyles are the comparatively smart play

Nerfs to fortify = safe ranged playstyles are comparatively more "tanky" than before.

Needing to overcome more resistance is less of an issue when you can hit from a distance multiple times from comparative safety while 3 free totems and an automated "mirage" Quadruple your free damage and provide 100% uptime of DPS. Meanwhile a melee is doing less damage and has maybe 50% DPS uptime and 1 totem and NO AUTOMATION. Multiplying both the danger and the loss of damage comparative to ranged.

I'm sorry but can someone who actually plays both melee and ranged/spells be put on the balance team that revisits melee next time? because over 6 years you guys have never once shown that you have a feel for what is wrong and WHY its wrong. This is displayed perfectly in todays balance manifesto where you actually made the most mechanically disadvantaged playstyle in the game WORSE through actions that any reasonable gamer could explain to you.
Pandering to players who don't want consequences for their mistakes is a perfect description of what went fundamentally wrong with D3 and 4.
If they wanted mindless mobile game time waster gameplay they sure did make some perplexing choices and marketing statements for 6 fucking years.

See all I see about the removal of added skills on items is "removed from elder/shaper weapons".

Who is to say that they aren't just being added onto the new influence types instead?

Or that they new influence types a rent going to be EVEN BETTER than what we currently have.

Just stop your crying until the games goes live in a few days, because people like you pop up every time there are "nerf notes" complaining that the world is ending, only to see that everything is still fine.

This is valid, but its also legit at how annoying it is to go through this nerf/buff meta tweak every 3 months.

It's not annoying, unless you try to just play the exact same build every league and play the "I hope my build isn't nerfed" game the whole time.

I can honestly say that in almost 4 years I've never once been upset/angry at patch notes because I'm happy to just try something different.
I saw supported skills on gear being removed as shaper/elder mods coming a mile away, it's a system that is too powerful for 4.0's gem system. Multi-mod also made crafting too easy.

We probably won't see Melee compensated for awhile though.

There's the big problem of funnelling everyone into the FOTM builds, as it doesn't ever feel good playing a heavily nerfed build.
This patch is maybe worst ever. And I was there to see them all.

I was kinda ok with creating this "flavor of the month" meta
But this time it looks like they nerfed already C tier skills to Z list (mostly melee)

I did not want to play melee anyway because it is TRASH. But you are really pouring salt to the wound there.

Even with this melee feels like using auto attack with no added bonuses.

And that is before upcoming nerf!

RIP melee 2019
Heil to totems 2020

Why did you bother improving the melee splash animations 2 leagues ago is the only thing my brain does not understand.
If you hate melee just kill it and do not waste resources on it.
Make better bowstring sounds instead.
I feel pretty, Oh, so pretty,
I feel pretty, and witty and gay,
And I pity Any girl who isn’t me today!

I also don't really ever play fotm builds. My favourite build last league was a cyclone/mjolner guardian, which is about as far away from last league's minion meta as it gets.
The way I see it this is the equivalent of a map mod :
Monster take 40% less damage if you are Melee ..especially if you are SSF.

The multi-mod crafting change especially is going to really hit SSF melee hard unless it's compensated by the other crafting changes like making the conqueror's exalts and fossils more deterministic.
