Energy shield doubt
So i have been playing only for a couple of weeks i am lvl 86 at the moment and got a new head piece and just noticed that my understanding of energy shield and the different stuff that increases it must be wrong.
My old head piece had 88 Energy shield and 27% increased energy shield. The new one have 79 Energy shield and 132% increased energy shield. By equipping the new one my shield went from 861 -> 842. So i must be getting smth wrong bc even if i had only 100 base energy shield that must be (100 + 79)*2.32 = 415 for the new one and (100+88)*1.27 = 238 for the old one. So i expected an even larger increase on energy shield but instead ended up with less. Would anyone mind to tell me how this really works? thx. Last bumped on Nov 21, 2019, 1:14:20 PM

% increased energy shield mods on an item that already has base energy shield are local to that item, and already taken into account in the value shown for the item's energy shield. So you just swapped an item with 88 ES to one with 79 ES, and your total ES went down because of it.

Without seeing the actual items, no.
The % modifiers are local and only apply to the item. I would guess it's the base. -- You can link items here by clicking yur portrait above and click on the item there from any character/stash etc. It will add it to the post. |

Oh that is handy.
Old one: New one: So all the increased % from items are only local and the final value is the one displayed. I guess the only "global" % modifiers are from the passive skill tree then? Wait the flat amounts are also included in the value the item shows on top? Like this: The +38 ES is included in the total 74 ES? Ty for the answers. " Yep. " Mostly, but there are also some on gear. e.g. Have you done something awesome with Sire of Shards? PM me and tell me all about it!

" And how can i distinguish this,is only on jewelry items that dont have ES on their own? |

If an item has a mod but not that stat, it's a global modifier.

" So these are granting me global evasion? And the Armor and ES are local ads? Thanks, well over a year and nearly clueless lol! I will wear your ghost and you will die twice, against me and for me.
That is some cold blooded shit to say... |

Mods are separated into global and local, and it is not as simple as GreyLensman said, though you can take it as a rule of the thumb.
That increased Armour, Evasion and Energy Shield mod is a local mod, regardless of whether the item has Evasion or not. A mod cannot become global or local due to other influences, but is always one or the other. Similarly, increases to defences on jewellery are always global, regardless of whether they have it as an implicit (like vanguard or crystal belts). Increases to defences on armour and shields are local unless explicitly stated otherwise, such as on a Skin of the Loyal. For mods of unique items, you can check the raw mod name on poedb, which should include a local tag if it is not global. |

A better way to say it would have been, if a piece cannot have a stat of that type, other than an implicit, then the mod is global. I'm sure there is an exception to that somewhere too, but it's a better statement of the rule of thumb.
Psycho's explanation is good. And yes, this is one of the niggling details when you first start. Last edited by GreyLensman#5323 on Nov 21, 2019, 12:53:15 PM
