Will PoE be discontinued and replaced by PoE 2?

Sorry guys I am to tired to read all the news from the Exilecon, I mean I had a really hard day today. I was kinda surprised by the announcement of PoE 2. Does this mean that once PoE 2 is released the regular PoE servers will be shut down? Does that mean that the existing 10 acts will be totally replaced by the 7 acts of PoE2?

Any explanation would be welome!

Thanks!

Z.

You can still play original 10 acts.
From what i understand was you play the current till maps or the new 7 act version poe 2. from acts on it all comes together or something xd
3.26 when?
Don't abandon us. don't turn your backs on the ones loving poe.
This will be the same kind up update as 1.0 to 2.0 was, and 2.0 to 3.0 was. From that perspective, the moniker POE2 is really nothing more than a marketing tool.

It will be a continuation of the current game, but you will get to choose whether to run a new character through the existing campaign or the new campaign.

I mean technically it is all a marketing tool, because as a company they need us to buy MTXs or the game does not exists. Considering you don't actually have to buy the game or pay a monthly fee, what would you expect them to do?

Other than that POE 2 is very different in play through and is clearly a true 2.0 version of the game with a lot of core elements changing. The old POE 1 3.0, 4.0 stuff was truly more of a continuation of the game. This is literally a reset where you are not having to pay attention to any of the early 1.0 stuff. There are no gods, etc. Different story and much better world generation. It is nothing like the 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, etc. changes.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

It will be an alternate campaign, thats it.

You chose PoE1 or PoE2 when you create a character, and then after the campaign you go to maps in the same way.

Except... that's not true. The early 1.0 stuff (I assume that means the current 10 acts) *will still be there*. You can play it if you want. You can ignore the new 7 act campaign if you want.

What I meant by "it's just a marketing tool" is that the POE2 upgrade would make just as much sense (more sense, actually) if they had just kept the 4.0 moniker. This update will manifest itself to players no differently than the previous update to 2.0, 3.0, etc.

I would say it's absolutely not "a true 2.0 version of the game", which usually indicates *different* content, with previous content unplayable. There _will not_ be a POE1 client and a separate POE2 client. There will simply be, as always, a single POE client, containing all of the previous content and some new content. Just like every previous POE update.
