Aul removes self-curse

hello

running my first aul at 800 depth, I am very open to the fact I might be missing something obvious, but

running shackles of the wretched with the traditional curseonhit + herald of thunder + temporal chains + movement skill. for testing and video purpose, absolutely no other curses. i apply temporal chains to myself perfectly well using herald up until the Aul fight starts. I am then unable to selfcurse using herald, but movement skill will apply it. what's going on? is it a combination of map mods? i see other jugg videos and they do not have this issue.
