Is chaos resistance worth it?
My latest witch build(lev 40) has fire, cold and lightning resistances all above 120%(75%+) and chaos at 78% without using the skill tree's chaos resistance mods.
Now I read at other sites that I should not focus on chaos resistance, that it is hardly necessary...is this true? I know that after level 5 I will lose 35% on all resistances and later on some more .It has been a few years since I last played and decided to start from scratch with a new character. You can feasibly get to level 100 with -60 chaos resist but more is always going to better for those rare occasions where a mob has a chaos or chaos DOT.
Obviously you can not give up chaos resist for primary resist but if your gear is good and you can feasibly fit in, it is extremely useful for preventing those rare deaths from chaos dmg. IGN: Arlianth

Chaos resist is not mandatory but most of past league mechanics lately been focused on chaos damage at the end game, so usually is a good idea to have at least a bit of it. Just don't need to go crazy on gear against it.

Any resistance becomes rather pointless, when some things just kill you in seconds.
I had an amazing character back in Incursion League. Killed Shaper for the first time. Farmed the highest level Temple. And he had over 50 positive Chaos Resistance because I knew the most dangerous things deal that type of damage. With the chaos damage over time resistance from the Pantheon, for extra safety. Still died to the fucking shooters every few Incursions on tier 14-16 Maps. Yes it took them a couple more milliseconds to chop me down compared to negative 60 Chaos Res - but was it enough time to do anything? hardly. Over-cap fire resistance? Catarina's skeletons and DoT still get you. Lightning? Good old Touch Of God. Cold? Shaper's balls. Path Of Exile is designed to kill you randomly, no matter how hard you try to build up your defenses. So the best option is Glass Cannon. You'll die anyway so may as well take as many things with you, as fast as possible. Alva: I'm sweating like a hog in heat

A good target for end content is 0. Then see how that feels before you invest in more.

i believe before endgame chaos resistance is just a luxury.
the few encounters with the black blobs arent worth the hustle. and i find them easy to avoid. i cant remember ever dying to chaos till now " beside the repetition thats my main concern with the game before respecing my char i had 7k life. no i have 5k. no difference at all. sometimes you die because the game wants you to die. i blame RNG for that and it pisses me off Im bad at math. " When i play for life build then i get all elemental resistances in boots, gloves and belt. It allows me to have amulet free from any resistances and when i go against any monster with chaos damage i put on without significant problems. When the monster is killed then i remove this amulet. The most important is not to base your main damage and main resistances on amulet socket (if your build can afford it). Only in this case you can change amulet for specific monster without dramatical consequences. May be.... :) Last edited by Staglaitor_#3917 on Nov 3, 2019, 12:33:01 PM

Chaos resistance definitely has value - it's not quite as "mandatory" as elemental resistances that are so common, but enough content has been added to make it meaningful, whether it be temple related or syndicate especially.
Yep, totally over league play.
