Melee build for newbie

Greetings,
I am totally new player. Game is confusing for me, so I would like to ask you.
1.) Could you recommend a melee build (not assassin please) which would be suitable for a newbie? I want to use heavy armor and melee weapons.

2.) Is it worth playing Standart league? Or is this league "dead" or "worhless"?

Thank you for your help!

This league is very melee unfriendly so i would advice against it, specially if your a newbie it will not be a pleasant experience to constantly fail the league content.

I would always suggest cyclone to anybody, since i think its the most fun and reliable melee skill the game offers.

Probably slayer cyclone is still a solid arche-type, go check cyclone guides on youtube from last league, they nerfed the area of effect by a lot but the basic build is still viable just not overpowered in how much it covers now.

Playing league or standart depends on the amount of time you want to play. If you don't have much free time or don't want to dedicate a lot of it to the game then standart is perfectly fine.
If your a "gamer" and can dedicate quite some time, nothing will beat playing league's i think.

Peace,

Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes
This one is a player favorite and seems easy enough.

Here is the kicker, new players often try to get CLOSE to a build, while missing key things. One linked missed is 60% less damage.

One aura can be 30% more damage taken, which is deadly.

So, if you are a beginner, follow it exactly. If you are experienced, you can deviate and succeed.

Good luck?

Exactly this. You can do pretty much everything in the game with cyclone. It's new player friendly, fun to use, and powerful. Play as a slayer and follow a guide in the 'duelist' part of the forums. But if you saw videos of the special new league mechanic 'Blight', you could find better (non melee) builds.
+1 for Hank the Tank guide linked by Trixxar. The build is solid and so is the guide.

As Trixx said, it's hard for a new player to tell what is critical and what you can fudge a little, so follow as closely as you can and don't be afraid to ask questions.

You might as well play in Blight. There are a lot more players, which can make it easier to trade for something. Standard is not dead. It's actually a good place to keep playing your character in the future. Whatever you start in Blight will be moved to Standard once Blight is over. But most players play in the challenge league (currently Blight).

On melee vs non-melee... you can do fine with either. Melee can handle the regular Blight encounters just fine. As to Blight maps, certain builds have a serious advantage, but they are also easy to avoid since the drop rate is quite low. If you like the idea of melee, go for it!

And Cyclone is also a perfectly good option. Main thing will be to find a beginner friendly guide for whatever build you choose. The guide is more important than the build when you are new so I might suggest selecting for the guide rather than the build. (Be sure you choose one that is up to date for 3.8!!)

Good luck, and welcome.
