Item pick up is clunky and has been for years. Some ideas that would help.

Chris Wilson, Baeclast Episode 41

Item pickup in PoE is more clunky than it needs to be, has been clunky for a long time and has not once improved since I started playing in Incursion League (I know, newb, get gut).

The specific Problems:
-Items often do not lie where they are displayed, your character has to run around more than you'd expect him to
-Your character will take time to walk a few steps between every pick up, because he has T-Rex arms
-You have to mouse-click on each name tag to pick up, making pickup while running impossible
-Currency is rarely stacked, stack of 12x scrolls is much smoother to pick up than twelve scrolls

Overall result: Picking up is annoying, takes more time than it needs to and enforces trading (and bots) because even annoying trade is less annoying than annoying pick up.

Solution ideas:
+fix item name = item location (easier said than done, I know)
+Give characters a decent radius in which they can pick up stuff, not just while standing on top of stuff. If I could click 6 items in an item explosion without taking a step, all problems in my life would be fixed.
+Make a keybind (or an additional option for the never used pick up key) to pick up the nearest item. Instant plz so it won't stop you from walking. I've got no console but I hear that's how it's done on consoles.
+Make currency form stacks more often. Maybe not everywhere but at least during item explosions (Delve, Incursion, ...).

A-more-heretic-idea
Make an item type: Purse / Bag. Different purses will auto pick-up scrolls/armourers plate/... until they are filled with one full stack of currency. The bag will take 6 item slots in your inventory whereas the stack of currency would just take one. This will enable player choice to automate certain pick ups while paying heavily in inventory space, not making all-auto-pickup a viable choice.
(Idea definitely needs fine tuning, but hey, that's what devs are for)[/spoiler}
Let tomorrow be about solutions. Today is about vengeance.

Maybe it would already help to take something from D3, where Gold is picked up automatically.

Currency items get picked um automatically when you run over them / near you.
Maybe selectable, which items you want to pick and maybe not more than one stack of identify/portal scrolls... something like that.

With item filters a bit of the clutter can be hidden, but I find them dangerous to use, you might miss something.

Plus all what you said, yes - that running-around when you click an item (T-Rex arms is a great wording! :))) is really weird.
You know nothing, Jon Snow.
item label dislocation is the main problem poe ever had since they decided to bury players in items.

there is no hope it ever gets fixed, hell i'm not even sure ggg sees that as a problem.

I would definitely +1 this.

I would also note that everything in this game has a yin/yang design, where it is meant to be enjoyed but also extend your play time.

I feel like individual item pick up is one of these individually small but in aggregate large things that GGG desires to keep in the game.

One of my biggest frustrations, on top of your points, is that any kind of latency whatsoever can make you "miss" the item tag for pick up as well. How many times have you had to reclick on an item because you "missed" (NO I DIDN'T DAMMIT). How many times have you frantically clicked a shrine in the midst of a group of mobs because it just won't register?

Yes, a big frustration for me as well is what you explained about items not being picked up due to the click not registering or whatever. Like WTF :D

Also items not laying in spots where the filter shows you is another interesting beast.
New mute system is terrible - no trade...
1) Press z to re-position the forced label positioning of items

2) See 1.

3) You can't walk while looting, because your character needs to be in a certain range of the item.

4) Currency stacks are terrible and greatly diminish the experience/value of looting. AFAIK this terrible idea was stemmed from reddit and started to creep its way into the game. If an exalt drops, it's exhilarating each time. If a 2x stack of exalts drop, it's still exhilarating, but not as much. This slowly degrades the rewarding factor over time. Each time a player loots a single item, it feels good. Also, the player's screen being filled with currency items is a positive, not a negative.

You cannot.
There are too many items on the ground, in some cases all the labels together do not fit in the screen, you simply, literally cannot just 'fix' this.

Screen clutter would need to be addressed first, and then the GUI ( labels ) would need to be refreshed automatically when the character mobes ( which might be resources consuming ? I don't quite see why it would not be there otherwise ).

Agree.

The "lasting impression" prophecy is a big 'fuck you' from GGG to the players for example.
SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.
+1

massively increase radius for pickup

give everyone a free basic pet and allow pets to autoloot basic currencies within a large radius of the player.

just do it, whatever is going through their minds when they reject these ideas... just stop, stop with this nonsense that the game has to be a tedious shitfest for balance reasons. it doesnt, just get over it and make it more fun to play already.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)
pick up 1 scroll, and pick up all scrolls in the immediate vicinity. Vaccuum suck the currency like in D3 would be a nice QoL change.
