Per Baeclast why not Grenades instead of turning mines into Traps?
I mean I don't see a valid difference between mines and traps now* this change just eliminated a playstyle. At least if you had made the new mine style into its own thing (Grenades as per Octavian's suggestion on Baeclast) we would actually still have the soon to be extinct play style and Granades could join Brands as a new-ish thing (new-ish because Brands are just totems that are better than totems in every possible way)
*Because we are throwing mines at monsters they will trigger without needing to detonate them (just like traps do) and because they are now "ranged" like traps and go off on top of monsters instead of at your feet: the selection of skills you used to prefer with Mines is actually now pretty much identical to traps instead of favoring other skills like Glacial Cascade. Also it can be argued that the new buffs that Mines give will actually impact traps negatively because they are basically Traps+buffs. I feel like the recent skill development and this talk of "archtypes" (AKA preset classes) with the short term disasters that were Brands, Winter Orb and Cyclone that GGG is actively moving towards a game where 2-3 skills are used per league and those skills are forcibly removed the next league. This sort of lead by the nose herding of the player base is highly alarming. I realize now after the fact that Brands weren't a design error made by someone who didn't understand how broken they would be, and later WOrb and Cyclone... they were intentionally released broken so that players would feel forced to use them, So GGG can cynically manipulate the meta far more than they used to and make POE into more of a Theme Park ride. Pandering to players who don't want consequences for their mistakes is a perfect description of what went fundamentally wrong with D3 and 4. If they wanted mindless mobile game time waster gameplay they sure did make some perplexing choices and marketing statements for 6 fucking years. " [Edit]I always thought they went off if a mob walked on them (like a mine right?) given that they have somthing called "Detonation radius" and this numbr is 60 while traps number is 10... Appears I am wrong about that though. Regardless the positioning and the feel of using them changes dramatically when they are thrown and all of these changes move the needle towards feeling more like traps. In this case they are just traps that require a second button press and that becomes essentially the only difference between them any more. The tacked on buffs don't really change that they are just 2 button traps now... they just give compensation for needing to detonate your traps with a second button press. If you're interested in discussing this I recommend watching the last Baeclast which should catch you up to where my thoughts are coming from. Post patch they will be next to identical, traps are grenades, mines are grenades where you press D.
I don't think its a bad change though dropping mines at your feet doesn't fit the way we play anymore, my only gripe is why remove fire nova mine when you finally added supports to make it a fun skill -_- |

Yup, they want you to play mines and not traps this league, but for once the league won’t be half the player base doing the same thing. Mines are overhauled, so there will be several mine builds. Summoners are changed in an as of yet unannounced way; many summoner builds. Poison is getting love...I don’t know enough about them to know what kind of changes to expect. You will certainly see a lot of cross over builds. There will be builds that utilize both traps and mines probably or poison minions. Oh, and don’t worry about Cyclone, GGG will nerf it in 3.8 and probably 3.9. 4.0 will simply change the game.

Huh? You missed my entire point. There will be several summoner builds and several mine builds. As I said earlier I don’t know enough about poison builds. Yes, they will have similarities, but there is a big difference in gear between many of them which stops everyone and their mother from coveting the same uniques. Look at this league at the value of Starforge vs Voidforge....I do not expect that at all.
I doubt there will be a single main skill more than 30% played, which is far supported to the 50% Cyclone boasted. But whatever, if all you want to do is complain about changes to the game, go play D3. Every change is the same there: you do more pew pew. |

Shooting a "go play D3" at a mid-break ruler of wreaclast roaming the forums in the absence of worthwhile time expenditures.
Good luck! Peace, -Boem- Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes
