So, MINES get better access to leech than spells now? Is this a joke?

What I am referring to are these new gloves being released in 3.8;

So now MINES get better leech than casting spells? Who approved this? Massive mana costs, no leech, hinder is way worse and harder to get than maim, silence exists, worse damage and far less safe than mines/totems/traps...let me count the ways thou art fucked as a caster. Is self-cast meant to not be viable? Because this is how you cement self-cast as a meme playstyle, second only arguably to single target melee namelock skills. This balance is actually mind-boggling to me. Is this one of those times where the design rationale is "this one thing must be dog shit so that other things can seem to shine by comparison"?

Maybe we will get to play self-cast again in 2021 when the next rework happens and GGG remembers all the ways they broke their own asymmetrical balancing by making accuracy capping trivial without much investment (this is their stated reason for spells not having easy access to leech).

Edit: link is truncated by the site seems like, but you can google it on the poe subreddit. Basically, mines get 1% damage leech and if you stack power charges you also get a bit of recovery rate. The gloves themselves are mediocre, but my point is that nothing like this exists for spells.

Im not worried about it since it's a single item, like trolltimber for totem users, and we have no idea how common it's going to be.


But why casters doesn't have "easy" access to manaleech is a very good question though.
Maybe because it is not difficult to get stable mana sustain (mana, not Es with EB) at all. It takes some effort but that is still A LOT LESS EFFORT tgan capping accuracy (~3500 effective ACC)

Casters that stack crazy high.cast speed and actively avoid mana despite knowing full well they should.. well.. good luck

Casters have several issues but mana is an issue only for stubborn casters

you can get tons of spell leech if you go for ES as a caster. Btw i think leeching after mine damage is pretty dumb/OP

C'mon, give them a break. They want 80+% of users doing mines in 3.8, so that's what the game will be built around. You don't expect their last 3+ months of work on 3.8 to be ignored by the majority of players, do you?

TenCentGGG will make SURE you are pushed towards mines. It's just business. New mine MTXs!!!
I realize now that my OP is a bit ambiguous so I should clarify - I am speaking about high mana costs and life leech separately; I'm not bemoaning lacking mana leech. Life leech and accuracy are the two mechanics that GGG has described as asymmetrically balanced between attacks and spells. I'm just listing some of the downsides of spellcasting to highlight that lacking life leech is not needed at all for them to not be overpowered - that is, right now, self-cast is unbalanced in my opinion, not that it is totally non-viable or something (just never or rarely a superior choice).

As to the people that mentioned ES leech - true, but not all (and in fact many) spells perform far better as a hybrid/EB/life builds, and by restricting spell leech to ES (which is in a pretty poor state right now unless you're rich or can invest a shitload of nodes into ES) you are hindering self-casting substantially.

Really I'm just a bit salty (kind of like melee players right now, actually) that the 'self-cast' rework was pretty much a failure and was walked back substantially after 3.6 anyway....and things like these gloves are just pissing on self-casters' graves.

ONE PAIR OF GLOVES that allow mines to leech in the entire game, compared to... I don't even know how many unique items, literally dozens? Including FLASKS, which don't require a huge compromise to your damage/defense/resistances the way these gloves would?

And that's not even mentioning the rare mods enabling spell life leech in this game...

Just... WOW, OP. This might seriously be the worst informed thread I've ever seen in this subforum, which was a pretty high bar to clear. Kudos!
