Why both an Aggressive and Defensive Minion Gem?

I don't see why we need two different Gem's for Minion's.

In 3.7 we had the Blood and Sand stances. Why should Minion's be any different. It's just going to cause people to swap Gem's out between clearing and boss fights. Surely GGG should trying to reduce Gem swapping not encouraging it!

You can put different gems on different minions. If it were like a stance, you'd affect all your minions the same. In practice a lot of people are probably going to just ignore that potential for customization, especially on softcore, but it's nice that it's there.

Also note that the gems each have a set of different bonuses as well.
And you can have the multipliers or other bonusses the gems give, but you still have the minions like they are now.
Maybe I should have been a bit clearer. The gems would remain support gems linked to the minion. If you had a Shield/Frenzy support gem you could use two on different minion setups.

So you could switch say Skeletons from Shield to Frenzy and leave Zombies on Shield.

But until we see actual numbers on all of these gem's it's going to be too early to tell.

And how do you switch stances on individual minion types without adding seven hundred new skill prompts?

Besides, they're minions. They're not smart enough to switch their behavior on the fly, since most of them are literally brainless. Even beyond the fluff, I like the notion of being able to figure out selectively which minions do what. Raging Spirits with Feeding Frenzy and Infernal Legion, Zomboids with Meat Shield and Fortify, the new Carrion Golem with Anima Stones, get you a classic necromancer.

Or do Stone Golems with Infernal Legion and MI; those things have crazy high life and can scale higher, basically end up playing Righteous Fire without having to burn yourself.
