Thoughts on oil anointment

So there are 12 oils, any combination of 3 makes a notable. Is anyone good enough at maths to figure out how many combinations there are? I'm confused about how this is going to be implemented - they say we'll be able to get any of the notables on the tree so the number can't be lower than that, and if it's higher there will be some repeated combinations, or some combinations wouldn't do anything at all. If it's the exact number of notables that exist (or will exist at launch) on the tree, then what will they do when they make new notables?
Having the number of combinations be greater than the number of notables makes sense as it would mean when they make new notables they can apply them to unused or repeated combinations... It would technically put a cap on the amount of notables they could implement without adding a new oil though. Curious to see the numbers. How many notables are there currently anyway? " There are way more combinations than there are notables, so that won't be a problem. Exactly how many combinations depends on whether order matters, and I don't think we know that yet. Like, is blue/silver/orange different from orange/blue/silver? |

Assuming order doesn't matter and you can't repeat the same oil twice:
(12)(11)(10) / (3)(2)(1) = 220 Assuming order does matter, you get more: (12)(11)(10) = 1320 If you can repeat the same oils more than once the calculations get more complex but can be done if you want me to work those out too. You get a lot more combinations that way. |
