Is it impossible to Link more than 4 Sockets?
Hey there,
I've just found a 5 socket chest piece and wasted every 'Orb of Fusing' I had trying to link the sockets. I'm feeling really stupid right now, because it seems it's simply not possible to link anything with more than 4 sockets. Is this true? Should I just sell it to the vendor and hope I eventually find a 5 socket chest piece that's already linked? And do 5 linked items actually drop? Thanks for any advice. you need to make sure the item HAS more than 4 sockets before trying to fuse.
Jeweller orbs ROLL the AMOUNT of sockets on an item. Fusing orbs LINK the sockets on an item. If you only have 4 sockets on an item and you smash fusings into it you can only fuse the sockets the item already has. If you want more sockets use a jeweller orb. good luck. It has to be item lvl 35 to link 5 sockets. Yes you can fuse 5 and 6 sockets with fuses but it can take a lot of them. They also drop and show up at the vendors. You also get recipes to link sockets at the crafting bench. iirc it's 350 fuses to bench 5 sockets.
How many fuses did you use? |

"This is wrong. Item level has nothing to do with linking. If sockets are there, they can be linked. Item level only limits how many sockets an item can have naturally. OP, it is hard to roll 5 links on 5 socket items. Slightly easier to roll it on a 6 socket item since there are 2 ways to get it then. Quality on the item makes it easier so make the item 20 quality first. But in general it is not worth wasting fuses until you have a 6 socket item that is good enoguh you’ll use for a long time. " One way to get yourself 5 links is to buy a Jeweller's Touch prophecy in trade - assuming you're not playing SSF. These are running < 10c. Use it on that gear and it will give you a 5L with one fuse. BUT, before you do that, you should check trade. There are quite a few 5-link chests available for even less than the prophecy. You might find something that fits your build. 5-link items do drop from time to time, but it's not worth waiting. Much easier to just buy the gear, or buy something with the sockets and use the prophecy. If you are SSF, you're obviously in a different world entirely and there are other strategies, like farming certain divination cards. |

Aha! Thanks for the replies.
Yes, I am SSF and I think 'gearing up' is the most challenging thing in the game. I wasted 2 stacks (40 orbs) trying to link the sockets. I know some of you will laugh at that, but I haven't been playing for very long and it took me ages to save up that many :( Ah well, we live and learn. |

SSF is a hard road to start with, although perfectly fine if you're the patient sort. It just takes a different approach and mindset.
If you are not delving, you will want to, since you can only get the Vorici socket recipes there. You will want to look at the 5L and 6L div cards and do a little research on the drop rates. A Tabula Rasa is also a good bet. That always has 6 linked white sockets; it just doesn't have any stats. It has a reasonable drop rate - one in a league is not unusual, and you can farm cards for it as well. You can drop SSF questions into the SSF thread here: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1843683/page/360 Best of luck |

" The more sockets you are trying to link, the more fuses it is going to take. You should expect to use about 100 fuses to get a 5link. this number rises to 1,000+ for a 6link. after using only 40, im not really surprised you didnt hit. Last edited by Thror2k5#7154 on Aug 13, 2019, 11:09:26 PM

" OMG! I had no idea. I wish I'd known this before :( I won't make that mistake again. Thanks for the heads up. |
