40% Increased Frost blades damage helmet enchant not working (or do I not understand something)?
Hey guys,
I am running a frost blades Champion and was excited to get a helm in endgame that would boost my Frost Blades damage (DPS, I assumed) by 40%!!! So I traded for a nice base with it and got lucky crafting something wearable, but I got a shock when I equipped it and my DPS barely moved. With the helmet OFF, my frost blades DPS is 72k. With it equipped, it's 77k. That's 5 on 72, or about 7% increase, and some of that could be coming from the +dexterity (accuracy) on the helm. Am I missing something, or is this a bug? I assume there are enough people running frost blades that this is a common thing, but I'm not finding anything on searches, so I assume I'm probably the idiot and I'm missing something basic. Please help! Thanks! Last bumped on Aug 5, 2019, 3:47:41 PM

40% increased is not = 40% more
Very important to learn the difference between "increased" and "more" in PoE https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Stat#more_vs_increased Last edited by arknath#4740 on Aug 5, 2019, 7:17:50 AM

OK, increased not more. Guess that's the important thing. I have no idea how the math is actually working in this case, but I guess this isn't the right enchant for me.

@OP...
Best thing you can do to better understand the game is play around in Path of Building. Not only can you model the impact of most items and skills, you can see exactly how the calcs work. " It's probably the best helmet enchant for your build if you're running FB. (Edit: not true...see below.) I'm guessing it's having maybe a 5% impact on your total FB DPS, which is about as much as you can get from many things. Even a nice jewel with 4 DPS mods is only going to have a 5-10% impact on your DPS, depending on how strong your build already is. This game is about stacking a lot of little improvements to scale effects. Even the benefit of "more" is small if you don't have much. With a lot, the delta between more and increased gets quite large. Last edited by GreyLensman#5323 on Aug 5, 2019, 8:37:07 AM

There are "ok" helmet enchants. Yours included which only "increase" the base damage and does not multiply your current damage with all increases and earlier multipliers included.
This also only grant 40% increased damage, which is not alot. But if you take other Enchants, they can multiply your damage in different ways, by either adding more projectiles or balls, these are a good example. " Math: The increase is just added to the increases you already have. So if your damage is already increased by 500% (by increased cold damage, increased phys damage, increased projectile damage) etc, the 40% from the enchant will make that 540%, i.e. the resulting damage will be 8% higher (40 of 500). 500% + 40% of 500%, resulting in 700% increased damage.
