3.7 Tempered RF Incinerate Tank

Welcome

The main idea behind this build is to convert as much damage taken into fire combined with very high fire max resist. This setup may serve mainly as an example since it will work for pretty much any kind of RF build.

(as of PoB 1.4.146 remove RF for accurate dps numbers)

Pros

+ Very high incoming damage mitigation
+ Quite cheap for basic setup
+ Autopilot Shaper farming

Cons

- Kinda slow mapping
- Not the best for map Legion encounters, 5 emblem should be easy though
- Not the best damage output (maybe you can do better)

Defense

The key to the build is the combination of the Tempered by War keystone introduced with 3.7 combined with a Talisman such as this one
.
This keystone is provided by socketing a

jewel (specifically Rakiata) in range of a Keystone on the passive tree, converting that Keystone into TbW.

So we don't take lightning damage ever, but instead fire damage. The exception would be lightning damage over time, but to my knowledge no source of that type is in the game.

To mitigate physical damage we also convert it to fire. With the proper gear we can get this as high as 53% (and even higher if we want).

10% from Tasalio, Cleansing Water in Chieftain tree
10% from helmet
15% from body armour
10% from Watcher's Eye (while affected by Purity of Fire)
8% from corruption on shield

As an added benefit pretty much any kind of hit we take triggers the 50% increased Life Recovery from Tasalio.

To reach 87%+ fire resistance we use the old lvl 25 Purity of fire + Rise of the Phoenix meme plus a little bit from the tree.

On top of this we have Arctic Armour which is another 13% physical and 12% fire damage mitigation and 5% physical mitigation from Soul of Steel (passive tree).

As a result our total mitigation is a follows:
88.56% vs Fire damage
88.56% vs Lightning damage
82.28% vs Cold damage
~55.01% vs physical damage, not including armour

When we fight The Shaper specifically we can go even further. Since he exclusively deals cold and physical damage we can use a Talisman like this one
resulting in 88.56% mitigation for cold damage. The ball projectiles he shoots also have cold penetration, which we can ignore entirely since we don't take the damage as cold. With this setup you pretty much only have to dodge his degen ray and facetank the slam and balls.

Offense

Since we have a lot of fire resist we might aswell use Righteous Fire. As a chieftain we get a lot of life regen, so with that and a bit from the tree RF is sustained quite easily.

As main attack skill we have Incinerate with Cast-while-Channeling Flame Surge, scaled with a bunch of strength and Repentance, Anger, EO and chieftain stuff.

Passive tree

While leveling focus on getting to the Keystones first since they help with sustaining Incinerate and damage and pick up life and life regen on the way. Picking up Blood Magic temporarily lets you not worry about mana regen. You should be able to use Incinerate quite early on with proper caster leveling stuff. As soon as you can wear a 50% conversion Talisman you can get TbW.

Kill all bandits.
In the ascendancy go Tasalio, Hinekora, Tawhoa.

The pantheon choices don't matter very much, we don't need Arakaali to sustain RF so go Lunaris/Solaris whatever for the mino god (mb Ralakesh or Shakari)

Gear

For Shaper

The amulet and shield are mandatory
Boots may be switched out and you use lvl 21 Purity of Fire in a +3 fire gems ring or something.

To be able to use Repentance gloves and gems you need a lot of Intelligence and Dexterity on rares aswell as Brute Force Solution jewel.
If a proper 6l body armour is too expensive you can get
for the price of a divine orb. For more damage you could get an Iron Fortress chest.

If you don't have lvl 4 Enlighten just take more of the reduced reservation nodes in templar.
If you don't have -mana cost rings use Blood Magic keystone and drop Anger and Arctic Armour.
If you don't have Unnatural Instinct you simply have slightly less aoe and cast speed ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Possible improvements on my gear

More life on everything, better rolls on the Repentance, +1 to Gems corruption on the boots to be able to drop the Reduced reservation nodes. The chest could also have increased strength at a higher value. A perfect Watcher's Eye would have the increased fire with anger on top of the other 2. Probably also a better weapon but I like the aoe corruption on my Doon.

If ppl want I might do some videos, idk.
