Staves - the best 2-handed weapons?

probably worth noting that there are now multiple ways on the tree now to generate charges including endurance charges. so if the goal is to hit hard but slow you might want to consider nodes like stun mastery (chance of endurance on stun) and inexorable (chance of endurance when hit).
while block is certainly a strong mechanic my personal take on staff block is it often isn't good enough without a lot of investment which means when a big hit does get through you are lacking on other mitigation. not saying is bad (iv really enjoyed a few high block staff characters) but rather just to know what to expect. on a random aside, if you want a slow hard hitting build that isn't the norm Marohi Erqi using shock wave support and any aoe attack or glacial hammer (fairly sure it has a hidden aoe tag thanks to its jewel thus letting aoe supports apply to shock wave) should work well and offer defense via stun with minimal added passive investment. why have 2 six links when you can have a 5 AND 7 link built into one weapon and both used with the same click? P.S the above works five with staves also its just that you loos out on the extra supports from the weapon, Hegemony's and storm wall would both be OK staff options. |

Not the best but surely my favourite. I like the mix of Crit and Block and with updated tree you can grab block and some damage in one node. First character will be Staff Berserker with Blits and Rage, not sure about the skill and supports yet as there are few to try. Maybe Heavy strike with Shockwave.
I like how they made staff nodes worth taking now, they are more or less grouped together and no need to travel to silly areas. It certainly looks pretty good! Mad Smash! I AM MAD

我也觉得 长杖 会是很不错的近战双手武器,
可能GGG也意识到改版后的长杖会很强大, 所以几个新的辅助技能限定 剑与斧头 I also think the staff would be a good melee two-handed weapon. Maybe GGG also realized that the revised stick would be very powerful. So several new assistive skills limit the sword and axe. |

Since the Templar is pictured with a staff in the character select screen, I have always wanted to build an effective Staff build.
Almost 7 years in and maybe, just maybe, this will be the time to do it. ~ Please separate the PoE1 and PoE2 forums. Last edited by DoubleU#7266 on Jun 7, 2019, 9:31:03 AM

OP your going about it the wrong way, what dictates how good a weapon is is the passives available to it on the tree, historically this has meant axes > swords > maces > staves.
they've added some fairly substantial stave related stuff to the top of the tree that might improve things somewhat but to really get a good read you'd need someone to do an average on the node value ratio'd to the base. All i'm certain of is they are better than they used to be, both because you can now craft a physical stave and because their crit nodes are improved. Are they better than axe/sword? Probably not because they get some free block. |
