I have a pretty nice 4 link +2 Minion Helm and am not sure whether to put the Skeletons or Zombies in it. The decision is a little tough since the only stat shown for minions is their life.

Skeleton Life is 3958 without the +2, with it, it goes to 5356. Zombie life without the +2 is 8482 and with it is 11476. I have a maximum of 10 Skeletons and 6 Zombies. Part of me thinks I should put the Skeletons in there since during maps, in heavy AoE situations the zombies don't last very long and I typically sit there resummoning Skeletons until Minion Instability withers down the enemies.

What configuration would you guys use?

Why choose one or the other? Why not just drop the added chaos damage and use both? I love unlimited fodder.

So Skeletons, Zombies, Minion Life and Minion Damage? That could work. I wish we could see how much their damage goes up from the gem leveling twice. I assume it does, right? And not just the life increasing?
I notice the skeleton gem says it will summon 6 at a time.

I have a lvl 61 summoner with the skeleton gem leveled all the way with the character and it only summons 2 at a time.

What am I missing here?
In Wraeclast, if someone tries to kill you... you just kill them right back.

It means a maximum of 6, not 6 per cast.

I wish we could see the damage of the minions. I'm wondering if Raise Zombie+Summon Skeleton+Minion Life+Minion Damage would be the best combination. I have no idea how much damage, accuracy or other things the minions gain from the gem level going up one.
have you considered spectres? The skill icon should show the damage buff, so you should see how much they benefit from +2 levels. Buffed ranged spectres could possible wreak so much more havoc.. depending on the buff of course.
That which does not kill us, makes a huge mistake.
When i eventually roll a helm with +2 minions and +20% chaos resist, im going to put:

summon zombie
summon skeleton
minion life
minion damage

In it. Both skeletons and zombies get a massive boost from +2 skills, spectres get almost nothing. Totem summoning is great and all, but it means that regardless of where you put it, totem summons are a lot weaker simply because that could have been a beneficial passive of some sort.

If you really want totem summons as an option, you cna still do that. Put skel+totem+minion life in either shield or weapon and keep the strong skels in helm, theres no rule that say you need to choose one or the other.

final setup would be something like:

helm: skel+zombie
chest: super spectres
glove: auras
weap: totem skels
boots: buffed attack skill (im using firestorm+conc effect+mana leech+ item quantity/ironwill)
shield: curses/auras
Zombies + Minion Life + Minion Speed in:

Skeletons and supports in the helm.
Brutus. Do you even sync?

This guy has the right idea.
I never thought about culling strike for my zombies.
Genius, sir.

Actually I use faster attacks and culling on specters or totem ( or everything whit hearthbraker )
Put that gem in there wen farming maps (sins specters get killed to fast in groups,s )
Or specters get blocked by walls ....
