Perma-Molten Shell aka 75% damage mitigation now?

From the text on the gem seen on the Baeclast episode - https://youtu.be/575M-LKz6zs?t=1617 - it now has a 3 second base duration with a 4 second cooldown. With a little duration scaling, it should be possible to give it a 4 second base duration, meaning permanent Molten Shell. And since it now mitigates 75% of damage (scalable higher with armor) while it's up...

Also honestly, at that point I'm not even sure if it's worth scaling it further with armor. It sounds like a 'one-point-wonder' (to use a phrase from other games) skill, in that it does so much just to start with. You'd probably gain more tankyness from just layering other defenses on top of it (like evasion or dodge or block) than investing into scaling it higher with armor (assuming it doesn't scale to 100%, of course, which we can be pretty sure it won't).

It depends on how much damage it blocks before it goes off. If its just the same "1508 damage prevented" of right now then its nice but not gamebreaking cause at a 75% reduced damage taken rate 1508 damage is pretty fast prevented.

It would be really interesting when Armour would increase the amount of damage needed for it to explode, that would turn armour indirectly into ehp.

Molten shell is consumed after it absorbs some damage. In its current design, it's only good as a kind of "bubble" or buffer to put on yourself before leaping into combat. The explosion gives it damage so that you won't resent precasting it each time you jump into a big engagement.

Jonathan also showed us that this basic design concept hasn't changed. A few things did change. That "bubble" absorbs more damage as you stack more armor (used to be a fixed amount based on gem level), and it's also an instant cast (no animation or global cooldown). I think that's fine.

You won't be having 100% uptime for 75% reduction, think of it more like a bubble for 1k hp you can cast every 4 seconds.

See the footage on baeclast #40 at 27:00.

Molten Shell now grants armour while active and a damage barrier that absorbs 75% of damage taken. The maximum damage that it can absorb is based on 20% of your total armour, making it a powerful choice for high Armour characters. It also lasts slightly longer than Steelskin. When Molten Shell absorbs its maximum damage or when the duration ends, all of the absorbed damage is dealt as reflected damage in an area around you, with a large damage multiplier.

I was right :DDD

Armour is the new ehp now.

The 4 seconds cooldown is starting after Molten Shell ends and it is shared by all three Guard Skills.

Yes how about that, a pretty cool new mechanic for armour. So the question is can we trigger CWDT with either steelskin or molten shell to have them fire sequentially while only having to manually cast one of them?
yea my next zerker will have 30-40k k too for sure.

Yes it will be usable with cwdt, time to level cwdt to 20 once again.

Getting it on CWDT would be waste bcos you want to activate it before taking any damage from the big boss:)

Ideally you want Molten Shell followed by Steelskin sequentially yes? It would be nice not to have to use 2 of your available keys for this, thus CWDT.
