The diaries of ingame currency flipper and onslaught boots lover

Warning - Long post.

First off, I really don't like the Synthesis league, so in contrast of doing 40/40 in Betrayal and farming uber-elder 2-3 times per day, in Synthesis I just went full currency flipping.

My first league goal was to get a mirror solely by flipping. I had starting capital of bout 4ex made from initial atlas pushing and some mapping, and from than on I just used it to buy and resell other currencies. To make long story short, investing the profits into mirror shard at 4-5ex (when mirror was bout 110ex) and hunting seven-years-bad luck at 45-50 chaos a pop, got me to my mirror at the mark of 8 days, 10 hours PLAYED and at a cost of about 95exalt. Out of that play time, about 5 days are of actual flipping while the rest was spent in leveling and atlas progression when I was still thinking I would engaged in the league mechanic.



So, with that achieved, and mirror carefully stashed, not to be touched again till standard migration, the question was, what to do next. At this point I leveled out a new occultist doing HoA build thinking I might try out again the league mechanics (as it was already patched few times). Few days later, and bout 12ex into the build (mostly multi mod +1gem elder bow and 6L high es regalia) I came to the final conclusion that this league mechanic is totally not for me, and decided to go back to my flipping habits (+ you get to see many people cool ho, though it does get old soon).

But what chase item to go for next?

Well, I think most would agree that onslaught boots with +8% move speed on t1 base would be a worthy goal and so I was set again on my way. Well, back to flipping, while poe.trade has a watch for sorcerer boots with those highly sought for implicit. After some time, and sitting back at 60 or so exalt, a pair pop up for 40ex. I whisper to the guy and even get an invite, but WAIT. He message me that another person pm'ed him an offer with a higher bid and if I'm willing to pay more. He didn't disclose the bid nor did he had that person in party, so when I now look at it, I really can't tell if it was real or just a ploy to squeeze more ex, but whatever, I offered 50ex, which apparently was higher than the "other guy" offer by a little bit, and the boots were mine. Mind you, this was few days before (https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/bftuje/how_i_duped_my_way_to_an_alt_art_alpha_howl_again/ ) was posted on how to recreate those boots using fractured fossils on the right fractured base.

Anyway, I now had the base in hand, and minus 50ex, but it's still needed to be crafted + lab enchanted.
As for me, the ideal boots would have +10 move speed lab enchant, 35 move speed, 6% move speed on hit, and decent es (170+). So, with this goal in mind I started on the craft job. First part - 30% quality with perfect fossil, that was easy enough and was achieved withing few tires (less than 10 I reckon).

Next in line was lab enchant. Now, considering me and lab running aren't really on good terms, I thought I would try to cheese my way out of it with enchanted fossils. At this point my relationship with the boots took a turn south, as throwing 30+ enchanted fossil on them never yielded my heart desire. Best I got was the merciless lab move speed, but f**k that.

I decided than, that despite my distaste for the uber lab, I might as well run it, cause at least that way it takes out of the way all of the merc/cruel lab enchant out of the pool of possible results. Now, since I never farmed lab, I initially did it very inefficiently, meaning, not going for dark shrine, and without twice enchanted. After 6 or so tries I teamed up with guild friend (Hats up for Mr. Tialda) who was also on the enchant hunt for on his own onslaught boots. Now this helped immensely as his build was fast lightning trap saboteur, which made it easy to run through lab at bout 6-7 minutes with all dark shrine included for the extra chance of speed/twice blessed shrine. With his help and 2 runs after, the sought after enchant was achieved! (so basically 10 tries at the fountain overall).

With lab enchant done, next on the agenda was crafting. Since I was aiming for t1 move speed and hopefully high es, I decided I go for dense+shudder+sanctified fossil, costing about 60-65 chaos per try. At this point I just went back to flipping, while slowly purchasing the required fossil for the craft. Having 8 fossils of each kind I decided I give it ago and the crafting process began. To my surprised it ended after the 2nd! try giving me boots with 200es, 35 move speed + move speed on hit suffix and an open suffix to boot which I could craft resist or even more quality for higher es! (sorry for lack of image since they were already sold , more on this later).

With second league goal achieved, and quite easily, I might add, I was back at flipping and thinking on what to do next, and since I'm flipping, there is no point in having the boots on me, I thought. Saying that, I placed the boots in my public tab and put them for 1 mirror service (a.k.a price 1 mirror). Now, I didn't think they were mirror worthy (on poe.trade there was a pair with similar stat and abyssal socket for service), but I didn't had anything to lose out of it. A day or so later some guy pm me asking if the boots are for sale or mirror service, and I reply service, which he, of course, is not interested in. But than I think to myself, wait, I invested no more than 60ex (and some time of course, but still) into the boots, and a mirror is already 153 on poe.trade. Hell, I sell them and just do the process again. So I message him that for a mirror I would sell, and you know what, I don't really need a mirror (already got one, thank you), and I have no clue how easy/fast it's to sell one, so, if he can fork out 150 hard ex, boots are his. The guy agree, just needing few hours to get the ex from guilds/friend, whatever, I don't care :). He pm few hours later and the deal is done!



Deal done and I'm 150ex in the black, but not for long. First on the agenda is get a new pair, and there is one for 55ex. This time it all goes smooth, no other mystery buyers, and I get a my new boots, I can start the process again! Also, I grabbed a +1gem/+1support implicit ilvl86 thicket bow, cause why not! (rip 65ex), but it could be a nice crafting project for std I guess! and I still got 30ex to spare.

I believe my timing was also just about right, cause just one day later the post on the duping fractured boots to create onslaught boots was posted, so fractured fossil price goes up and bye bye to buying onslaught boots again for 50 or so ex. But anyway, I got my base again, and can start the process all over again.

This time, however, things didn't go so smooth. I mean, I already knew I was gonna run the lab, so again, with the help of Mr. Tialda and armed with twice enchanted, we set ourselves on the lab, only this time, I was 25 runs in with no luck on the enchant, while Tialda already got 2 of his boots with the required enchantment. To add insult to injury, we never hit acceleration shrine in any of the runs! We kept on for 3 more tries (Tialda also using his go at the fountain on my boots) to no avail. The next day I thought I might start crafting them even without the enchant. So again, dense+shudder+sanctified, cause hey, those sanctified are probably hot if I got such great results in 2 effing tries!!! but nope. I'm 10 tries in and out of fossil and never even seeing t1 move speed. Well, rng is rng I guess, so back to buying fossil (joy....) and this time I just make a try whenever I get the 3 fossil, cause, again, 60c per try plus the fun of pming people for trades, you know... Move forward a few hours I'm 22 tries in with only twice seeing t1 speed and never with decent es or even just together with move speed on hit suffix.

Being a bit flustered I decide to wait a day with the boots, and even thinking that selling my good pair was a mistake, cause my value of the original boots I crafted was highly influenced by (now realizing) how lucky I was in crafting them.

But flustered I wasn't for long, and the day after I enlisted Tialda again for lab enchant hunting. I knew something in the air was different as we were hitting twice blessed on every run and even an acceleration shrine! and lo and behold, in the 3 run (basically 14 tries total at the fountain or 62 tries counting the other day) I got the enchant again, rejoice!

Enchant being done it was back to crafting. This time I decided I skip the sanctified, figuring one sanctified fossil is basically 2 more tries with just dense+shudder, and after 22 tries with sanctified that, it didn't really seem to do the job (ya, I know, small pool for statistic, but you got to trust your guts in this things!). This time I went for "long" craft session hunting fossil till I had 50 of each (and who knew how hard it was to get 2 socket chaotic resonator!, at least the alchemist ones are not too hard to get, shout out to the guy that actually invited me and sold one for one chromatic!) . With crafting mats in place, boots nicely placed in a tab with the mirror and surrounded by exalts I went at it again. 20-something tries into it, while porting to act 1 and rubbing the resonator on fresh players, this came up:


So, fianlly t1 ms with ms on hit, decent fire res, but low on the es, open prefix, open suffix, no raw es, and no es delve suffix. I was ambivalent at the results as the boots weren't good enough to my liking, but I didn't want to roll over so fast, knowing how annoying it could be to get this t1 ms with the underground suffix. At this point I was sitting back at raw 80 ex (had 40 something left after bought the synthesizer boots/bow and the rest from ongoing flipping) so I went to check poe.trade and luckily there was pair up for sale for 68ex (after there was none for less than 100ex for few day). I decided to put the current result on the side, bought up the new pair (which was already 30% quality) and keep working on them with the rest of the fossils.
20 or so minutes later and with 3 fossils left, Ambush League were born into the Wraeclast:


I didn't get the move speed on hit suffix, but with 204es and 1 decent + 1 not too bad of a resist, I think I have a new keeper.

I'm sure that as crafting goes, there room for improvement, (and I still need to run lab again for enchant) but for myself, I'm quite happy and satisfied with the result.

For the initial boots, I decided I put a suffix and try slam es prefix and just use them for myself till I decided to go at re crafting them.

To summarize (if you are still here).

Synthesis league - for me, bad.

Flipping - boring, but get the job done.

Onslaught boots - 83% ms in ho as occultist HoA, <3

Crafting - for what I needed, the hard part was getting the fossil.

See you in two or so weeks in (hopefully) flashback event.

Looks like awesome ARPG action packed gameplay. Oh wait... it's just sitting at your HO trading right?

BUT. If I could choose what to do. If I could spend all the time OP spent on crafting, including flipping and currency / fossils gaining, to go up and down the stairs in a 100-story high-rise building, I would choose a stairs.

If someone offered me real money for what OP did, he would have to give at least the equivalent of my monthly salary, but even then I probably would not agree.

In other words, what OP did looks rather like an extremely severe punishment, which he decided to impose on himself for some unknown sins.

I totally agree with you. I wouldn't really recommended this path of playing the game to the average player as it somewhat beat the purpose of playing an ARPG.

For myself, I guess I was already bit burned from betrayal + current league mechanic, so investing my time just full flipping was even somewhat fun, in its own weird way. Also, I had the luxury of guild discord to talk around with friends which made the whole process lot more bearable I guess.

Oh, well... If something like that gives you fun, do it for as long as you want. It's finally your free time. I treat games like PoE as entertainment. Of course, I can devote some time to some nonsenses, such as flipping, but if it would be the essence of the game, I prefer to play on the real stock market for real money.

This was also the reason why I stopped playing. Not enough H'n's and too many stock exchange and things that need to be done, because it is forced by developers. At the moment when I felt like a trained monkey, I immediately uninstalled this game :)

This game is going downhill really fast. No wonder one year from now only botters and nolifers will play it.
