Delve Boss despawn

Just found the first delve boss in a city biome, clicked the stairs so that the delve node was activated.

Someone wanted to trade at that exact moment, i jumped out real quick, came back to find out the stairs are still there but now _deactivated_ .... what is this ****

im really pissed right now, shouldnt there be a ******* warning like
"if you leave now, the ******* bossarea will despawn, this **** is a onetimer" ???

if you go back to your hideout, all your incompleted progression gets reseted
"You have great power. You're right to be proud. It's unfortunate you have to die now, but I will honor you with 45% of my strength."

sure, like syndicate fights underground, i'm aware of that,
but i didn't even enter the area to fight for something, i activated the node above it
Yep. At that point you committed. At least you learned something.

yeah i 'committed' being a delve noob, so what mr.beard?

just read that going back to niko's mine encampment is fine, hideout is not ~~ sucks
You've been playing PoE for 4 years and you never found out how delve cities work in the past 3 leagues...?

For reference, you can't lose bosses this way. The only way to lose a boss is to kill it while you're dead (or die after killing it due to a DoT).

But regular cities? Yeah, you get one shot. As soon as you activate a city node at the end of a crawler run, don't exit the instance (including by dying). If there's a loading screen, you've lost your city.

Portals lead to bosses, not stairs. You've likely found a normal node. It changes its state to 'completed' when you click on the crawler, like any other node. As others said, you have to leave your mine either before you click, or after you collect loot from all the chests inside.

This.

If there were stairs it wasn't a boss. The bosses allow you to try them again if you have not cleared them. You end up having to path to their area again.
Once you activate a delve city node (boss or otherwise) delve considers that square completed.

If you can't click the candle icon to re-enter delve, that means it's been reset (which you would have encountered every time you entered the mines, ever).

It's a learning experience.
