Need Shaper Fight Advice

So the other day I fought the Shaper for the first time. It... did not go well. Specifically, one thing that caught me was during the phase where he spams the arena and you have to sit in a ball with Zana, one of his projectiles that keep chasing you followed me in, and my options were "get out of the way, leave the shield, and die" or "stay in the shield, get hit, and die".

What am I missing here? Did I need to clear out the projectiles beforehand? Should I be trying to kite them within Zana's shield (while surrounded by two other players)? Anyone have some pointers on how to handle this phase of the fight?

If the orb followed you there you should've had enough time to trigger it before getting inside the shield unless it spawned at a very bad position.

Otherwise just wait for it to get close enough to the shield so you can go trigger it and get back in the shield in the space of 2 movement skills so to speak (flamedash on the orb, and back in the shield for example. In the case of flamedash you won't even get hit if you flamedash "through" the projectiles so the risk of getting killed is very very low).

the general idea is to pop the chasing orbs in corners of the arena.
if you can't , you try to pop it when he starts to do the charge up for the blast.

having good regen negates the damage from the pools too.

it is good to get in the habit of attacking 1 second and moving a bit, as this will be important on the uber elder fight where you lose track.
