Memory Nexus zones with synthesised chests trap you forever

Hello,

While in the Memory Nexus, is it intentional to be trapped in the zone after you complete a zone that has a synthesised chest?

I completed a zone, clicked the chests, then you are trapped and have to start over all the way from the Memory Nexus. When I dive into the blue goo it just puts me back where the chests are, no way to leave that zone and go back through the zone. I was planning on going back one zone and then another direction to continue playing.

This is my second experience doing the memory nexus. The first time I spent an hour building a bridge to a zone with the synthesised chests, as soon as I click the start, I got trapped by mobs and the blue goo ate me with less than 0.5 seconds to react, and lost all that work I did. Second time I got trapped once i clicked the chests as explained earlier.

Is this the intended mechanic? Are you forced to restart after doing a synthesised chest zone?
