Cash Shop Prices

Ok I am very new to this game. I understand skins are not "required" to play the game. But I play many other FTP and Pay to play games. Why are skins $50 per armor set. If I were to pay $60 I usually get a full game with hundreds of sets of armor. This is not about recouping costs this is greed for vanity. I want to support the game but not for those prices. If they wanted support of the average gamer it would be attainable prices. While I like the direct buy over loot box option.... It should not be rectal trauma to get them. I would bet if the price dropped you would make 100x more than you make at these prices

Ah the good old armchair economist. Do you really think they haven't thoroughly researched price points etc? If it were as simple as dropping the price of everything by half and getting more than double the sales it would have happened a very long time ago.

...No, the prices for cosmetics do NOT reflect GGG having "thoroughly researched price points." (I mean, seriously, what other games have $42+ per set of cosmetic armour be the norm that they could've "researched?")

The prices are a simple holdover from the early days of the game, when the main selling point were the supporter packs themselves; in the first couple years of the game or so, there wasn't much in the shop to buy at all, but many players had racked up thousands/tens of thousands of points, many of them before the store even had many cosmetics yet.

GGG's answer then was to put in particularly high cosmetic prices, so as to siphon off those huge pools players had; it made up for the limited variety of skins the store had, ESPECIALLY then.

Unfortunately, GGG got to scared of the thought of their per-player costs potentially going down, that they cannot see the bigger picture of volume. Actually, this mentality has continued across the board with their monetization plans: the ONLY nod to a shifting base (going from a playerbase made up of crodwfunding backers to a normal F2P base) was the introduction of seasonal supporter packs going up to only $60, starting with 2.3.0/Prophecy.

Unfortunately, the in-store prices haven't caught up, and it's probably contributing to the game's struggles to grow more than a little over the past year or two.

*Optional* cosmetics are too expensive in F2P game, therefore game has a problem with making playerbase to grow... Get a life.
Since 2.6 playerbase got bigger and bigger, with last 6 months getting fck huge. They don't have a problems with getting more people into a game. Don't make arguments out of thin air.

The prices are high yes,
but i buy the supporter packs for what the pack gives and the in game currency lets me pick something else.

would i buy more if the price was lower, yes - because impulse buying would be more of a thing when i could say oh it is just a few dollars , compared to now where i feel i should only spend on items that i really want. This causes me to wait and the initial wow factor tends to wear off by the time the item goes on sale. Thus i have points to spend for longer and buy less coins overall.

Like many aspects of the game, this is a relic from the past that has been forgotten.

Nothing will change until GGG changes their cycle from 3 Months of new content to 4 ,5, 6 months or higher fewer artist and more programmers/ analyst.

The current trend seems to be to make the game unplayable as a F2P model and force players to buy inventory space , this is probably a larger issue stifling growth.

I can honestly say as a new player looking at the game the prices are a deciding factor on IF I want to invest time and money into the game. It honestly looks like they just want to cater to whales. I sure as hell will not be slapping more than $10 for a skin set. $50 says they dont want my money. Its not researched prices this was slap it against the wall and see if it sticks and obviously some whales have lined their pockets but its about supply and demand... They have demand and the supply but it seems they are banking too much on the whales to support them not the playerbase.
Interesting thing i noticed. Not only mtx's are not cheaper since POE is no longer small indie game but buying them is even more expensive.

1) While new sets looks really nice and much better than "old" it's really hard to find matching pieces. You are usually left with option to use old addon to main set that looks strange or pay extra for new stuff made especially for this specific armour set (example: new Madcap armour set and celestial hood. Hood doesnt fit well showing bottom of your neck so enjoy buying new hood made especially for this set).

2) "Combined" mtx. Let's be honest, in most cases "basic" form that costs as much as any full skin from the past is just boring and ugly (sin armour set, innocence armour set etc.). But when combined it looks amazing.
I could understand if both basic sets would look good, and combining would let us use all 3 sets (combined could be considered as extra as "thank you" from GGG for extra support).
I find this practice to be nothing more but indirect way of doubling prices.

Skins are expensive, supporter packs are the best deals you will find.

I prefer spending money towards GGG that made me play that game for 6 years worth of the money i gave them.

Some Tiple A titles are putting the same prices on skin as well as lootboxes and the games costs between 60 and 200+ dollars.

Yes i spent 800$ with GGG, but i played roughly 6K hours in 6 years so is it really that expensive ?
Path of Exile is a Casino for gambling addicts.
Gambling is not fun nor a game mechanic...
