Question regarding Conc Effect + Storm Brand (and Smite)

Hello!

As far as I understand, Storm Brand works simiar to Smite in the sense that when it's attached to a target, it hits the branded enemy and 2 other targets while also doing area damage around them (difference being Smite only hits one target). After seeing GGG's answer regarding Smite and Conc effect in this thread https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2220555 , I'm wondering if that's the case with Storm Brand aswell? The wording on the gems is kinda different but at the same time they appear to function in a similar way, couldn't find any more info to confirm tho.

EDIT : Just quoting the part I'm most interested about directly from Jatin_GGG : "The lightning strike cannot damage the same enemy which was hit by the initial melee hit.

Concentrated Effect will increase the damage of the secondary lightning strike..."

implying that Conc Effect is useless in pure single-target situations.

Yes, it would be useless unless you have melee splash, or you're using Ancestral Call and melee the ground (resulting in one melee attack from the ghost and one lightning bolt from hitting the ground).

Yes, the question is regarding Storm Brand and Conc Effect in single target tho, where the wording is slightly different. Will it increase Storm Brand's damage in pure single target situations?

The Smite + Conc Effect interaction has been confirmed by Jatin in the thread I've linked.

Yes, conc effect does increase the damage of SB.

It's not hard to figure out either, put the gem in your setup and look at the number go up, it's not rocket science.

The dev is talking about SMITE in this case. Smite is a skill that has 2 components - the first hit that hits a single target or spot, and a 2nd AOE hit.
Conc effect is a support that says -- Supported Skills have 30% less Area of Effect, Supported Skills deal (35-54)% more Area Damage

This first hit, only hits a single target. it is NOT an aoe. Ergo, conc effect does not affect it. The 2nd part of smite is the area damage. This gets affected by conc JUST FINE.


Storm Brand gem description -- It periodically activates while attached, firing beams which deal damage to nearby enemies and those around them.

Each beam has an AOE. Ergo, each beam can be affected by conc effect.
