Soulrend duration is a joke

The whole purpose of chaos skills is that they do dmg over time,
they are mostly supposed to be hit and run builds,
not stand and spam...

What's the point in having a duration less than HALF a second...
0,4 to be exact? What a joke. Just to force us towards the duration nodes + one red duration socket wasted?

Just lower the dmg as much as you want,
but for the love of god make the base duration at least 3-5 sec.

if you want a LONG duration, use BANE.

Soulrend is a fast acting poison. Leave it alone.
I don't think it's supposed to be a long DOT skill. It's a long range projectile spell; like Fireball but chaos.
So far putting SoulRend and BAne with two curses works well in Poets Pens.

ya right now soul rend sucks for leveling until you can get some crazy duration. bane feels super amazing to level with.

i'll probably augment my end game plans and leave out soul rend now, honestly. just use caustic arrow again.

In testing, I used Soulrend+Unleashed+LMP+GMP+Inc Duration on a SSF Trickster to squeeze about 1.1 seconds out of all 21 homing streams. Cleared screens very nicely until act 10, at which point I got jack shit tired of the Intervention gankings. I also used a full 'more' supported ED to tag bosses -- made short work of Cruel and Merciless Izaro.

Were I playing this league, this set-up would absolutely be my starter. Bane shits all over Soulrend, as I hinted repeatedly, but twisting Srend into a functional shape for basic clearing isn't that hard. Unleash was a bit of a fluke though -- logic dictates that rapid fire repeat casting a short-duration DoT would be useless, given the DoTs can't stack. The trick is very few of the streams hit the same targets -- all 21 autonomous ribbons sought out their own targets. Felt kind of awesome.

I think I get why it's a super short duration DoT and not just straight damage: it gives you so many more nodes to take early on as a Shadow, which I did appreciate a lot -- you just slide along that south branch all the way through and then up through to Growth and Decay, then out through the life/es nodes to the big Chaos wheel.

It was nice playing a non-crit, non-long-DoT Shadow for once. Soulrend disappointed me at first, but then I got a feel for it and now it definitely is what I always wanted ED to be.

Shame about that pointless ES leech but eh, whatever. I assume there's a reason they didn't make it function like ED's simulated DoT leech, but couldn't be arsed asking what it is. As a one-click screen-clearer, Unleashed Soulrend is just fine. Before that it's clunky as shit, but it's hardly the first skill to rely on certain support configurations.

I'm thinking of doing Soulrend Occultist later in the league but I'm assuming SR "hits" enemies so if supported by a poison tag it could proc HoAg yes?
slower projectiles is a hint. If you don't get the hint you don't understand the mechanics of the spell :)
A more interesting question would be if it can shotgun. That'd make things a LOT more interesting, it might be a fun skill to try some poison shenanigans on in that case. The dot of the skill itself would be really good for clear, while poison would make short work of single targets.
I make dumb builds, therefore I am.

nope.

As for slower projectiles he's probably meaning slowing it down means more dot applications (rather than proj dmg) a bit like getting more out of ball lightning.

But all that's going to do is slow things down overall if your firing out projectiles fast enough to keep the dot on anyway.

I just need a tabula + poets pen.
No more cast speed issues.
