So we are working for The Shaper now

Or at least what seems to be a younger version of him.

I don't mind working for him. He's one of my favorite lore characters in Path Of Exile, and one of my favorite boss fights.

But how does it fit with the current version of Atlas, and current lore?

I like the current lore a lot.
Especially that last memory fragment. It's superbly written and voice acted.
Zana's side. Elder consuming memories instead of some nameless "decay".

How does young Valdo Caeserius ("Cavas") coexist in the same universe with old Valdo Caeserius ("Shaper"), Zana and Elder?
Unless Maps have no sense of time, and thus no time paradoxes?

Working for the Shaper? Not me. I'm no doubt going to do a crap job if it, which will make me a sleeper agent for the Elder I guess.
Knowledge is power.
Power corrupts.
Stay stupid.
Shaper dies at the end of Uber elder fight. His spirit is released and he doesn't remember what happened.

Cavas being Shaper's spirit rather than a physical younger Shaper, makes sense.
However Elder was banished at the end of that fight and the decay stopped - so what is consuming Cavas' memories?

Probably whoever Elder is 'working' for.

Hmm makes sense. Zana mentioned Elder is an agent of Eldritch Decay. He spreads it, and it wishes to spread from the "dream realms" of the Atlas, into Wraeclast.
Stopping and banishing Elder prevented this from happening, but it probably didn't remove the Decay from the Atlas.

Or perhaps we are looking at the origins of elder. This Cavas guy had his body stolen and turned into elder. His spirit says his memories contain valuable secrets, perhaps related to Decay?

I don't think The Elder has an origin.
He just is. An unstoppable though temporarily slowdown-able force of decay, older than time itself.

Shaper has an origin. An extremely well-written and well-voice-acted one, if you complete Zana's quest line and listen to all her dialogue.
It makes perfect sense for "Cavas" to be the ghost of Valdo Caeserius, or some dream manifestation of his fleeting sanity.

Yeah, I think its the spirit of slayed shaper. When elder kidnapped him, he didnt erase all memories 100%. They are still there, but someone has to go in and retrieve them.

I'm curious what do these memories contain. Maybe his research into elder and decay itself.
From the trailer I basically got a notion that maps are now a slow imploding version of breach, aspects of lore or storyline never seem to grab my attention in the initial hype.

Yep, totally over league play.
