checking resources takes forever

Hi, I know there are old threads about this, but have to ask.

I'm not going nuts to list my computers specs are, they are middle of the road, and my internet connection is pretty good. With that said, what causes checking resources to take 25 minutes whenever there is some minor patch? What is actually going on behind the scenes? I love POE, but one of the reasons I tend to play once a year now is that half my time is wasted just waiting for resources to be checked.
