Are there any hardcore RP players in here?
If the answer is "yes",then will you use the PoE background to roleplay?

maybe I wish to be one...
videos games aren't really suited for RP even if they have RP in their name... with the idea of "private league" with special rules and only "authorized" people it may be interresting enough to try to start one HC/RP league in PoE. as an old tabletop RPG player I'll certainly give it a try if something like this will appear in the future. ... nothing

That has potential to be alot of fun, I miss going out and questing and then writing up a RP story on the boards about it. I miss the original Neverwinter Nights on AOL, even with the $8.99 per hour fee.

I like to play in the spirit of the game, but most online stuff just doesn't lend itself to RP. I think for RP to work you need a committed solid core of players. Its like RenFaire, a few too many tourists in shorts or jeans and huzzah seems a bit silly.
What kind of game would have you march through and whack everything, its a game not equipment testing.

it could exist some sort of special league where you can only enter if you meet certain requirement. so i think there'll not be a problem of "tourist". but someone has to pay the league slot.. we don't really now atm how this'll be implemented by GGG.
... nothing

As a dedicated tabletop gamer I will absolutely be creating characters with personalities. Probably very little actual role playing will happen just because I don't find these kind of games lend themselves to that. I guess it remains to be seen.

As you can probably tell, I sort of like to type/write a lot. All of my PoE characters are based on some idea or another I've had, be it a character I've tabletopped or whathaveyou. BUT I don't think the game is the proper environment for roleplay. Admittedly, I used to RP on Battle.net, have done so almost since D1's release -- but I don't think I'd ever return to that level of interaction here. I like to think of a game system such as PoE's precluding the need for written/expressed RP. Why roll dice or type actions when a click of the mouse does the job?
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.
I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period. |

I can see putting personality into your characters, but I don't see the interaction potential here for real RP. I mean if your the party tank you can act all tanky, but how do you put personality into a game that is primarily a clicker with side scroller amounts of mobs? Voice chat?
For RP to really work I think a game can't be linear, character gets expressed by choices. Last game I played that had strong RP was Anarchy Online, where you have opposing factions, and not so much character skill overlap so you needed a "blank" type of character from time to time to do things. What kind of game would have you march through and whack everything, its a game not equipment testing.
