Do projectile attacks bypass armour ?
Range mobs (especially archers) seemed far more dangerous than melee mobs.
Is this a bug? |

" Armor is just "shit" in general... "White" archer packs are supposed to be the "sticks" as GGG says... Yet they hit like "trees" in Merc. And in maps they hit like Redwoods. Again armor is shit... It's not a bug, it's just a retarded formula for DR they used. |

I think elemental ranged attacks only check resists and not armor, and most ranged things have an element of some sort so armor would only work on part of the damage.
For example lightning arrow, armor would work to reduce the physical part and lighting resist would reduce the other part. At least thats how i understand why me and my minons die in 1-2 seconds of concentrated fire. |

" Thank you for providing this answer; I'll add a bit. Armour will react to any incoming physical damage, melee or ranged (although I'm not sure how it interacts with Ethereal Knives). Elemental resistances are the solution to all elemental damage, and as Asmosis pointed out, a ridiculous amount of ranged (and I think damage in general) is elementally augmented in this game. Which incidentally feeds back to Stinkfinger's otherwise negligible post: armour is 'shit' because so many things deal elemental damage. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.
I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period. |

" Thanks for the response. Is there a reason for this? The cost of stacking armour and the abundance of armour nodes seemed to indicate a stronger role was intended. |

" It's just a bad formula... They didn't think it through completely(or test it, or listen to us "testers" sorta like desyncs) and they refuse to "tweak" it. Apparently they think adding melee gems, will fix the underlying problem of melee being gimp, which is solely due to how BAD armor is, well evasion to an extent too. As to the "mod" who says "armor is shit because so many thigns deal elemental damage"... I'm sorry, but that's literally the dumbest thing I've heard. Resists to elements work perfectly... You get 80% Fire Resist, you resist a ton of that damage. You get 0% Fire Resist, you take an assload of damage. Armor... BAD... You get 10k-15k armor... You take buttloads of damage whether from "GGG's sticks" or "GGG's trees". You stack it... The only semblance of any amount of difference between that stack, and none whatsoever is "white packs" BELOW YOUR LEVEL. It's bad... The formula is bad... And no matter what apologetics say, it's bad. They can praise on the rooftops across the 4 corners of the world, screaming at the top of their lungs, "Armor is fine, I know cause GGG told me"... It's still BAD. Last edited by StinkFinger#4623 on Mar 5, 2013, 3:16:41 AM

While I don't care for his tone, I have to agree. Armor may work the way GGG wants, but it feels broken. I have gotten farther with blocking and pure evasion. Not getting hit seems to be the only real defense.

" I love you man, but this just doesnt reflect what ive been experiencing for my entire playtime on all of my characters, seen on the forums, heard from my friends, or seen in global chat. Armor is shit because the scaling is just way too steep for it to be useful in the amounts that are reasonably obtainable. Part of the issue of reasonable obtainability would be the life prefix being very very close, if not completely, mandatory on gear. This makes it MUCH harder to roll flat armor + % armor on viable gear. |

What about changing armour properties to 'total damage reduction' but with a cap at 20%?
e.g. 20k armour = 15%, 15k = 10%, etc. |
